Does it matter if the photographer has never been to our venue before? Do you think we will be missing great photo shots by not choosing someone who has experience with the place?

I heard that it helps if the photographer shot at the venue before because he is familiar with the layout and good shots etc...but i dont think it is a make or break

Your photographer could always go check the place out and get a sense of the vibe before you get married. I'm sure the RH's BM probably wouldn't mind giving him a tour if you told them you were sending the photographer over before hand.

your photographer would probably know to check out the place beforehand to get a feel for where good shots can take place and get familiar with the settings.

I would go with one who knows your venue. Because for my wedding it rained. And he knew where to take the best shots because we couldnt take any outside.

Re: photographer and venue?
Your photog should def make a trip out to your RH to check it out. This way they'll know great photo op spots.

I think it helps if they know the venue a little, but I don't think it means you shouldn't hire a photographer you like just because they haven't been to your venue before. After all they are taking pictures of you and FH (and family and friends) not the venue. JMO

I think it helps but I don't think it should make or break whether or not you use them if you really like them!

Re: photographer and venue?
we thought it was important that the photog we booked had done work at our RH bc that way they know what shots work best and where the best places are....but if its a good photog I am sure they will get great shots no matter what.

JMO! I don't think it should matter if your photographer has been to your venue or not. Our photographer is visiting the venue the day before just to get an idea of the setup of the place.

Which will save you and FH time and him time, and then you'll be able to spend more time with your guest. I'd nicely ask if this is a possibility (For him to check the site out before the big day.) HTH!

the hall has been around,. but the photographer is fairly new to the business, so they havent been out to the RH yet for an event.

Re: photographer and venue?
Your photog will prob do a walk through at the venue around the same time your wedding is to see the lighting...and check it all out. No worries.... they should know what they're doing.

Re: photographer and venue?
any good photog will be able to figure out great shots. I'm sure things may go more quickly if they have been there before but I wouldn't worry too much. My photog has only shot at my RH once before but the pictures were amazing!!!

I think it helps but any good photographer will capture the moments no matter where you are! & I'm sure they'll check it out before the day of. Maybe you could call & ask them to just to make sure :)

I don't think it matters if they've been there before or not, unless there's any sort of secret passageways he or she would need to navigate! They're professionals so they'll be great and get some really creative and wonderful shots to capture your whole day.
In fact, if the photog hasn't been there, you may be more likely to get more creative shots of things that a more familiar photographer might miss because they think it's 'standard' at the venue.
If you're like me, I don't know my venue all that well myself, having only been there to look at it the day we booked and twice since (once to show my mom, once to show my MOH) so I wouldn't mind someone taking some detail shots of the place itself to capture it on our day!
See, so you may end up with an even more positive results with something you may have been worried about at first!
