We are having a large engagement party this June. I was wondering if anyone hired a photographer or just had family take pics?

Re: Photographer at ngagement party?
I didn't hire a photographer but I wish I did. I didn't get any of the pics I wanted because I was pulled in a million different directions. If you have the money in your budget, I say do it. Otherwise, ask a friend or family member to take them but specify what pics you want.

We didn't have an engagement party, but honestly, it's not necessary. But it's always nice! Check out my SIL. She was a 2011 bride and a wedding photographer's assistant. She does a lot of event photography and is very reasonable.
I hired a local portrait photographer to take pics at the E-party and I am so glad we did. I didn't have to worry about getting a family member to do it. Also, with the professional equipment the photos came out amazing in the dimly lit restaurant. I saw some pics family members took that night on their own cameras and there was no comparison. It was nice not to have to worry about collecting photos from different people, the photographer was able to give me a CD of all the pics the next week.
Since our party was a Saturday night it would have been very pricey to book a regular wedding photographer, so having someone who usually does family portraits and engagement shoots is much more affordable.
