Photographer Contract

Photographer Contract

I got my contract from my photographer to sign and I am worried about a few things on it.

I was referred to him by a close friend so i know he is legit but I want to ask you guys what you have done.

1. Is anyone paying the photographer in full before the wedding? He wants his last payment a month before the wedding because he has been screwed over so many times. Well so have I and i dont know how i feel about this.

2. How long are you waiting for your pictures after the wedding? He said to give him 2 months! My friend got married on May 15th and had her pictures like a week ago!!

Thank you everyone!

Re: Photographer Contract

We are paying the photographer the night of the wedding... and then paying him after we get the album and am happy with it and then paying the videographer when we receive the video. I would never pay anyone in full a month in advance.

As for the the album I'm pretty sure we are getting the proof book a week later and then we decide on the album pictures and get the album shortly after. I don't think 2months is an unreasonable timeline I have heard much worse.

Re: Photographer Contract

We are not paying our photographer in full until after we pick our proofs and the albums are ready to be shipped to us.

I would be skeptical (sp?) of that. Since you do not really have no leverage if you don't get your albums and such.

As for the 2 months for pics...I went to places that told us 6-8 weeks. Don't forget your are not their only wedding plus I'm sure they will be touching up your pics

Re: Photographer Contract

When I was looking for a photographer that was one thing I did not want. After the wedding you still need to make sure that you get your proofs and your album so if you pay them up front before the wedding there is no reason for them to even show up to the wedding, they already have their money, what is there left to work for. I would be very careful with that. Unfortunately you can't trust anyone these days, even with contracts.

I would not feel comfortable paying up front at all!!! Our contract states that we have to give a large chunk 2 weeks before the wedding and then two weeks after we come back from our honeymoon to give the rest and that's only after we see all of our proofs and have the albums...

It doesn't matter that it's a family friend, if your gut is telling you one thing then go with it!

Dont do it. Id find someone else. If you have a problem you have no leverage with them.

I agree with all the ladies... See if he will revise the contract, otherwise, no deal.. You don't need to worry about getting your pictures!!

My photographer said we didn't have to give her the last payment until we picked up the proofs. We paid her in full 6 months before the wedding. She said we would have our proofs 2 weeks after the wedding.

We are paying our photographer in full the day of the wedding. He gets his last payment then. But 2 months! Thats crazy!!!! My guy said about 10 days!

ITA! THis guy will have a hard time getting clients. Most photogs do not require full payment until you get the finished product!

Fishy, risky, I would pass.

I'd ask if you can revise the payment schedule. You should ALWAYS have more money to give them when you pick up a finished product, or the services are rendered.
As for the time, it depends on how the photos are given to you. If they are unedited, then I'd expect them sooner. If they are edited and converted and put on a disc nicely then it's going to take a while. Our photographer actually showed us the process with our epics and it takes a long time to go through that many images and color correct, crop, etc, even before you start to go the fancy route with effects and removing blemishes! I know ours will be prob about 2 months. It took 2 weeks to get our epics back which were a little over 100 pics. I think 6-8 weeks is pretty standard and prob more like 8 weeks+ during the busy season.

We are paying all except like $500 before the wedding. we pay the last $500 when we pick up our albums. Originally I thought this was weird, but all of our other vendors are being paid before the wedding so it can't be that odd...
