I'm just curious what past brides gave to their photogs for must take photos

Did you give him a list?
Did you print out pics that you wanted to re-create?

Did you give him a list of important peeps?

I am giving a list w/ print out pics of the ideal types of that pic (I know that sounds anal). Also, I will give a list with pics of important folk beforehand.

I trust him for the rest. I saw his photos and I like his work and booked him.

He was honest with me and told me that if I had 'huge' list of must take photos, it would slow him down to get other shots.

I think you should discuss with him prior to your day so he does not come blind.

Haven't gotten married yet, but I know that some photographers actually have a list you can access from their web sites that have all of the common 'must have' shots on it. Then you check off the ones you definitely want him to get.

At my brother's wedding, they gave their photographer a list with different shots like: bride and groom with groom's parents, bride and groom with bride's grandparents....

I think we will have a list of the important formal shots for our photographer, and leave the rest up to him!
