I just booked my venue. Based off the advice on this site my next step is the photographer...
What is the average down payment for a photographer? How are the payments set up?

for us we needed to put down 10% at the time of booking, another 10% a month after that. 7 months after that is a payment of 30% and then 40% is due 1 week prior to the date. The remaining 10% is given to them when you pick up your proofs.

We booked with Patken....
1/3 deposit 1/3 4 weeks before 1/3 when you pick up proofs...

we booked with them too. thats not the payment we have though. ours was $500 depsoit, i think ½ of balance week before and balance at pick up. but then again everytime i call or email them asking they never answer

ours was 10% upfront, then 10% a month later. Then I think 30% 6 months after that. 40% right before wedding (or day of, I forget) and then 10% when you pick up proofs.
ETA: That was with Duet.

I am booked with Thomas Paul. We had to leave a $500 deposit, then the remaining balance minus $500 4 weeks before, and the last $500 when we choose our album
