Fiance and I already book with Patken for our 8/25/07 wedding and now I've decided I want a second photographer to shoot only photojournalistic pictures. SO now I am on a limited budget but still want to see if I can find someone who can do this on such short notice....Anyone know of someone I can hire for about $750 for the day????
Thanks in advance

Re: Photographer Dilemma Need Suggestions
they do, but they will also be doing the traditional shots so I would like someone who will do strictly photojournalism and not stop to do the family shots.....plus they are somewhat expensive to add a second photographer so I am looking for someone less pricey...

We used Artistic Images. We got regular photos and had a 2nd guy there who took photojournalistic. You can check out the website at art-isticimages.com
ETA: Most of the photjournalistic pics are posted in the second camera/candid section of the website

Usually they wuold have one regular photographer then send someone else from Patken for Photojournalism shots.

you should make sure in the contract with patken that you can have another photographer. my contract with Something In Blue doesn't allow it

I would probably use someone from Patken, this way they work in conjunction with one another. And you don't have to order photos from two places. JMHO

That's what I was thinking. Most companies won't allow a second photographer, so double check before you book someone else.

As a past Patken bride I'd definitely say you don't need the 2nd photographer. I used Vinnie and I have to say he did a phenomenal job capturing both traditional and photojournalistic pictures.
I *think* before the wedding you meet with your photographer and at that meeting I would just be specific with what you're looking for. I did this and Vinnie totally came through. I love my proofs - the photojournalistic ones are absolutely gorgeous.

you should try to get one through patken. only because they will work well together! i've heard horror stories where photographers hated each other, and argued, etc. you don't want that on your wedding day. not to mention what girls are saying above, how maybe patken won't even allow it.
it shouldn't be more than about $750 for the day to add another photographer. or can it be? eh.

Re: Photographer Dilemma Need Suggestions
if you want ONLY photojournalism then why dont you tell patken you want to use only their photojournalistic photographer and not the traditional one...this way you have 1 and don't have to pay for a 2nd one

you can also tell them to do all the posed shots first and then have the rest of the day for them to take as many of the other shots as they possibly can.

Oh my god, if any photographer had the nerve to argue with another vendor at a wedding then they are completely unprofessional ! I guess the main reason I want to hire someone from a different company is to get a completely different perspective...and I am finding some really talented freelance photographers out there.

Re: Photographer Dilemma Need Suggestions
I completely understand. I'm also using Patken and I freaked out thinking I needed a photojournalist. So instead of paying them however much they charge my bm's cousin is going to be my photojournalist. She's even coming the night before my wedding to take some fun 'hanging out' pictures of me and my bridal party. Shes a photography major and has done many weddings before. I wanted a totally separate perspective, and since she is not technically a 'professional' photographer or part of a photography company I don't think it would qualify as a breach of contract. Ask around, you might know someone who knows someone who can be a photojournalist for your wedding day.

Re: Photographer Dilemma Need Suggestions
Patken doesn't have any rules about having a second photographer, I called and asked them. The two people I am narrowing it down to right now are freelance so they aren't with any other studio. They will be taking black and white and color digital photos and to keep costs down I am giong to get the pics on cd and have them printed myself. So I am basically paying for them to shoot . I did meet with my photographer but I just feel like while she is with us at the photo locations, who's taking pics of the cocktail hour???? I actually feel good about doing this, I love when that happens. ! YAY
