I am meeting with my first photographer next week... what do I ask? What is typically included, what is usually extra?

Definately ask for samples of their work. See if they have any pictures from your wedding location. Also find out if there are any reception halls that recommend them. The more reception halls that recommend them, the better :)

Ask if they do more posed photos, or photojournalistic work (and if certain photographers specialize in each area). Ask how many proofs you will get, and whether you will get negatives. Ask whether they are insured with your reception site! Ask whether they use digital photography...When is the last payment due...And definitely post on here to get reviews and check the BBB web site. There are lots of bad photographer reviews, mostly due to how long it took to get the proofs!
ETA: Definitely make sure the samples you are seeing are examples from the photographer you will be using your day! Plenty of places only show the best pictures, and then day of give you a bad photographer!
