Hi Everyone! I am new here and I have gotten a lot of help just reading your feedback and recommendations. I am getting Married May 2008. The only preparation I have done is to get my wedding dress. Thats it! I am really a last minute type of gal. I promise myself I will have the invitations out before the end of this month.
My next hunt right now is a photographer. Can you recommend a great photographer that is within my budget (less than $1000). Is that possible or am I dreaming? If that is impossible, kindly let me know how much should I adjust my budget. I just need the most basic package.
Your help will be very much appreciated.

Re: Photographer on a Tight Budget
welcome to the boards
thats a little tight for photography and pictures are a really important part of the wedding- if you want to stay in that budget, I would see if any local colleges have a photography department and maybe you can get someone just starting out to take your pictures for their own portfolio
good luck

i have been on this site for over a year and havent heard of anybody getting it for less than 1K so its going to be hard...Unless you get a photography student just starting out. Also do you want to get albums from the photographer or make your own? just the albums alone are a couple of hundred and many 1k and up for an album
try 12th night though, they do great work and have low prices...will be over 1k so more like 2k or 1800

Welcome.
Do you have your location yet? If not I would start on that right away (you mentioned you only have your dress).
If the local schools don't work for you for photographer try craigslist.

Re: Photographer on a Tight Budget
Thank you!
I dont think I need an album for the photos. I just need great shots and a wonderful photographer to work with.
I did call Twelfth Night and they quoted me $1850. Thats actually the lowest quote I got. Does anybody know any other place that can beat that price.
My FH and I are getting a house very soon so every dollar of savings matter to us now. Its difficult!
Thank you for your suggestions

well the album prices were separate...so i mean even without albums a photographer is going to cost 1k...i was trying to show you how the albums are the only thing that will cost 1k or less. $1850 is not a bad price for a photographer...maybe see if you can find somebody for $1500 if you can but i cant think of anybody.

Re: Photographer on a Tight Budget
I was in the same situation as you with photography... I got my photographer cheap.... Madison Ave photography.. They are a vendor on here... Located in Hicksville... I just wanted a proof only package and Ill do the albums myself... (dont tell them that though LOL) It will be between 995-1095 depending on who you talk to.. Give them a call.... And ask for a proof only package then ask if they can work with you on pricing.... Im sure they will do something!!!! Good Luck... you can do it!
BTW I called I think every photog on LI and some not on LI and Madison Ave is the cheapest I could get....
Ohhhhh wait Ill FM info from another photog....

www.yangphoto.com
He has a la carte prices. His package is also 1800 w/o an album.
he is verry reasonable (in your budget) and comes well recommended. He provides a package w/ just digital proofs, so if you're willing to make your own albums you can do it. He photographed vintagegirl, an 07 bride's wedding if u search her name on the review board you'll find them.
Thank you all for all your suggestions. I am very appreciative!

Re: Photographer on a Tight Budget
i got mine for $850. it's proofs only, includes the whole day, all the pics on cd, and another cd of touched up pics. he's a photojournalist i know through my cousin and does weddings on the side.
you should look into 'non-wedding' photographers. everything is always scaled up once you add the word 'wedding' to it. check on craigslist.com. search 'wedding photographers' or just 'photographers' under 'services.' just make sure to ask to see their portfolio, get and check references, and a good contract before you book. there's some good stuff on there.
one of the vendors on here offered me $1000 for a proofs only package, but i wasn't too impressed by the quality of their work... stick with non-wedding photographers i'd say.
