i have just booked my RH and church and am trying to work with the budget that i have. i am having a small wedding, but i do not want to take money away from the photo aspect.
i dont want video, just a good photographer and i want parent albums as well. the proofs are anotehr thing i would like to keep and maybe a CD to be made. i also want someone that will be out of my face the whole day. i am one of those people that hates pics.
also what is the difference between having digital and film?
just wondering a basic range i should be looking at before i go looking and get quotes that i am being ripped off.

Re: photographer prices
A photographer will start around $3000 and go up from there. We looked at 7 different photographers, and that was the starting price.
As for video - we too started off saying we didn't want video, but after considering it carefully, and having several people point out things they saw on their videos that they missed during the actual event, we reconsidered. Now, we are almost at the point of having twovideographers.

Re: photographer prices
Our photographer is only costing us $1500.00 for the entire day. She using color and black and white film as when enlargements are done they come out clearer than if digital was used, and we will get all of our negatives. Here is her website if you want further info: Marianela Vera

I am starting to look for photographers/videographers as well. I don't wanna spend a crazy amount of money. Really would like to stay in in the range of 2000. This is really hard, anyone has any help out there? :) XOXOXOXO Kitty

Re: photographer prices
I'm using Kim Covell and she's great. She starts at $950 for 4 hours and then charges $200 for each additional hour. But she also charges $50 per roll of film to be developed. So pretty much when all is said and done, she's about $2000. But you get:
-ALL the negatives -2 4x6 pictures of each shot -parent photos -she shoots both color & black and white -Film & digital -Puts all the pictures on a CD for you so you can upload them, send them to people, or make additional enlargements.
FM me if you want more info

Good luck! Just a suggestion, for parents albums- I wanted to save some $$, and parent albumsd are like $400 a peice! I will be composing the parent albums on line (coffee table books), through possibly shutterfly, I have to look into it somemore, but they are MAYBE $55.

Yes Shutterfly.com does great albums (which my FSIL did for her wedding) and they cost $25-35 dollars each. They're great! Seriously... why spend hundreds on an album for your parents when they're only going to look at it once or twice when you first give it to them and then barely look it afterwards?

Re: photographer prices
thanks everyone for the suggestions, i have taken note of all the photographers. the prices you all suggested are what i can afford for photo (2000).
thanks again!
ETA- thanks for the shutterfly suggestions. i might just reconsider not getting parent albums thru the photo place. the prices they charge are crazy! since when are brides cash cows?? the whole wedding industry at times just amazes me and how much the prices go up when the word 'wedding' is mentioned.

Re: photographer prices
If you don't want the camera in your face all day, perhaps you should go for the photojournalistic approach. These pictures are mostly taken when you don't even know it. Sounds like your style from what you said. We've heard impeccable things about Duet, and Silverfox, as a matter of fact we're meeting with Silverfox tonight. I'll let you know how it went. But for the most part you can ala carte what you want. Good luck to you!!

Re: photographer prices
I was so happy with my photog. Laurie Studios, in Centereach. Prices are a la carte. Prices to shoot the wedidng day vary depending on how many hours, how many photogs., whether you get a lighting assistant, etc. They give you the digital files with one set of very hi res. photos and one set of low res. There is no copyright on the photos and I've already made a set of proofs through shutterfly.

Re: photographer prices
I think I heard Duvall is under $2000 but I heard mix reviews. Also, Glenmore in Roslyn is about $2,500 and they seemed be good. I didn't pick them b/c they said lighting assistant is not necessary but, if I want one they will give it to me. I've heard the opposite that a lighting asst is very important and they have to be trained well. So, that comment kinda made me uncomfortable about booking with them

Re: photographer prices
I just booked with Franklin Square Photographer and it's very expensive...my FH and I were in shock at the final total on the contract. Well worth it though if you ask me...their work is amazing. FM me if you want more details on price.

Re: photographer prices
My FH and I recently booked Moments by Tessie & Sandi. Check them out, they are awesome. Two women, really know what we wanted, they shoot photojournalism and there prices were reasonable.
They have the most incredible albums I've ever seen, Italian handmade, silk covers. www.momentsbytands.com
