Photographers

I am being to start the hunt for a photographer. What are some important questions that I need to ask?

I would have a budget in your mind of what you want to spend. Make sure you see lots and lots of his work.

Make sure that he or she doesn't constantly show you their work on a lousy website. See albums, albums, albums. And read the testimonials. Very important. Ask this, are you going to be the photographer at my wedding. If so, can I see only your work? Are you going to bring two or three people with you? And are you going to stay the whole time or just leave me with one photographer by the time my reception is done? Good Luck! Been there, done that at least 10 times. I picked the right one now and booked with him this passed summer.

Re: Photographers

I am meeting with a photographer tomorrow that was highly recommended from one of my BM's. She used him last year for her wedding and her best friend just used him a few weeks ago for her wedding. I hope it works out. I am just afraid I am not going to ask all the questions that I need to.

here's my standard listof q's i send girls:

figure out your budget, and get their price list & packages in writing

ask if you get to meet the actual photographer who will be doing your wedding BEFORE you sign a contract, as well as see their work

how many hours is all day coverage? how much for overtime

can you keep the negatives? will pics be put on a cd? is there an additional charge for this?

do they shoot only film, digital or both? is the digital high-res, and can you get a cd for it?

about on average how many proofs do they typically give? will they be given in an album, in an unmarked format? what size are the proofs?

what kind of deposit? how much is due the day of, and on the day you pick up your proofs?

will they charge for having to shoot at more than one location? are there unlimited locations?

are pics available online for viewing/ordering?

what type of albums do you offer? are the pictures mounted or digital?

what kind of style of photography are you dominnant in? tradtional or photojournalistic, or both?

can i get shots in both color & b&W? do you charge extra for b&w?

what's your cancellation policy?

that's all i can think of for now

Re: Photographers

1. What's the photographer's primary style -- traditional, candid, or posed?Mixed?

2. What's the photographer's philosophy about shooting weddings?

3. Does the photographer shoot in color, black and white, or both?

4. How independent is the photographer? Does she prefer that you describe exactly what you want, or would she rather have free rein to capture the festivities on film?

5. Has the photographer shot many weddings?

6. Can you have referrals?

7. How long do you stay? If only for a specific amount of hours, what is the overtime rate?

8. What kinds of cameras does the photographer use?

9. What kind of lighting and other equipment (such as tripods) does the photographer use? Does the photographer bring backup equipment in case of emergency?

10. If she uses an assistant, os the assistant qualified?

11. Whats included in each package? Can you do a la carte? engagement session?

12. Can you buy the album after the wedding?

MAKE SURE YOU SEE MANY ALBUMS OF THEIR WORK
