Photographers

I see all these posts about photographers.... Thanks ladies. Here's what I need to know...

Im going to start looking into photographers but I have NO CLUE what they costs.
Do I just call some of the places and ask them if they can send me some pricing info or do we have to make an appt. right form the begining?
BTW- What is the norm rate?

Some places have rates posted on their sites.

You can also post for a rate quote in the Vendor's Helping Brides forum.

I'm just starting my photographer search, so I can't be of much help. The cost really varies depending on the photographer you use and the package you want. Most photographers will send you a rate sheet with their packages and/or a la carte options.

Most should give you pricing over the phone or on their web sites.

Do you have a budget? I just looked at the vendors on LIW then called them to get package pricing. GL

(I have no idea how to reply to someones message..like when you show what your replying to....sorry)

I have an 'Overall' budget, if that makes any sense.
I mean, I dont even know what they start at so I really didnt budget 'X' amount for the photo.

I dont want/need a videographer so Im hoping that will save me some money.

You have several options:

- Digital photography only: all on DVD (proofs, etc). You don't have any prints of any kind but you can do it yourself.
package can start around $900 and up (12th night is one of them... great reviews)

- Digital or film with proofs, albums, etc..: those include a lot of things. They can start at $2000, $4000, and up......(most photographers!)

Remember that it is OK to negociate packages to YOUR needs.

I just met with Grey Dog Photography and they were great. They only do photo, no video. The prices were the best I've seen. Check them out.

since you're just beginning the photographer hunt, and you're as shell-shocked as I was when I discovered how much they cost, I feel compelled to give you one good word of advice....

While I was tempted to get an inexpensive photographer, make sure you check out their work.... you'll likely change your mind. It's amazing the difference between albums from the $$$ and $ photographers...

you can sometimes negotiate a lower price from a $$$ photographer by compromising in certain areas. We are only receiving 800 proofs from our photographer.... no final album. We'll arrange the album ourselves. Saved us $800....

I used Patken, and so did a couple of my cousins. You can find a really good package for about $5,000 but we spent about triple that for so much extra stuff
