photographers....

How can you tell a good photographer from a not so good one. I will prolly use the photographer that my RH suggests...but I really dont know what to look for....What are some things that made you ladies choose your photographers

Re: photographers....

Ok what I looked for in a phtographer.

Before I chose I looked through a lot of websites (well I picked 5 that I liked the best either from Rh or recommendation)

When I met with them...I looked at their work...are the photogs ideas on the same line with mine. Do they do things that I want...I was looking for newer edgy..mag type photos. (Patken)

Are they going to suggest poses that may help us feel comfortable and have a good time. (Vetvet Studios)

Are they willing to do an e shoot so that we get to know the photog. before we sign a contract to see how well we get along. (Patken) not sure about Velvet doing this but do give you e pic shoot.

Price. I know that you cant be cheap with price but if the work seems similar who is giving me the better deal? Velvet for me. Bob mirrors work that higher priced photogs do and at a lower rate.
He also takes suggestions.

What am I getting for my money?

When will I get my proofs (I dont want to wait a month)

Do they offer more than one photographer?

I cant think of other things right now. I looked at work and then went to the ones I liked the best and checked their prices.

Style. I think it's simply amazing that photographers can have such different style. Photojournalism is a growing trend.

Price. I think some prices a just outrageous for photographs!

Personality. This vendor is going to follow you around all day long so you should be able to get a long with him/her.

Recommendations!

first of all, make sure you like the type and style of pictures they take. you may want to shop around instead of going with the ones that are given to you. i checked on their websites to get an idea of what they're all about. secondly, meet them in person to get a feel of how they operate their business. all in all, you should be comfortable with the photographer and what they're providing you. don't be shy...ask a million questions and make comparisons between photographers. a little research goes a long way.

definately price and what was included (how much will they give you for what your paying)

quality and style of work

personality, I couldn't book someone who i didn't like..eric at duet was awesome and very helpful and not cocky about his work (i hated that about some photographers)

This sounds strange...but their selling tactic,...alot of photographers would bad mouth others, and would be too pushy saying (on you wedding day, WE are going to do this , and this) i just didn't like photographers who were pushy and rude..

Re: photographers....

also...an important thing to me was, is their work copyrighted?? a lot of photographers i hear copyright and put watermarks on all their proofs so that u can only duplicate them through the actual company. i am not into that...i would want to have my own rights to all my photos. a lot of places now are giving out dvds with the proofs and let u do what u want with them .

i agree! it makes me angry when they write all over your proofs or say u cant have the rights until a yr later or anything like that.

but also...i guess how long theyve been in the wedding business...if they have references that u can call...their accreditations or if they've won any awards...or if they are connected with an accredited website/group or whatever. u may also want to ask what type of paper is used for the prints and what kind of guarantees they offer

OH one more thing that is slightly important

TOUCH UPS

Some photographers do them for free (take cars out of background, lines out of faces)

Others charge per touch up...so ask about that also!

A lot of the new work is all digital and when they create their albums the images come out very blurry. I noticed that with one of the places i visited. The albums he used to show us his work had really bad larger spreads on the page. Be carefull of stuff like that when you choose someone doing a digital album. Also the re-prints may not come out as nice either.

Who does your RH suggest??

Where have you seen this...that is pretty scary!

I was wondering that also...make sure you ask what size/resolution the digital files are...for example if its 300 dpi and its like 3x5 you won't be able to reprint it at a larger scale....something to keep in mind.
