Photographers the Shoot Film Only

I booked my photographer a while ago based soley on their amazing work. However they shoot exclusively film, not digital. I get every one of my proofs. I had planned to have a family member that owns a photo shop hi-res scan them to DVDs for me. But since the proofs are technically copywritten by the photographer my aunt doesn’t feel comfortable scanning them. The photographer will sell the negatives and the rights to the pics, but only after 5 years.
However my photographer does not even offer any form of digital proof. Does anyone know a way around this?? I really want to have a digital archive of all of our photos.
Tia if anyone has any advise!
