Photographer/Videographer Information

HI! I am new to LIWeddings Chit Chat. I was wondering if possibly someone on the board could answer some of my questions regarding this topic.

1) What are the most important questions to ask photographers/videographers when meeting with them?

2) I am wondering if I should pick a photographer/videographer that is a recommended vendor from the reception hall or use other vendors? I do know that the recommended vendors would be familar with my site and know the best pictures to take.

3) I am looking at Patken, Marco, Jeffrey Studios and possibly Leli. Any recommendations?

Thank you!

I'm new too! I think I'm going to look at both the 'preferred' vendors and those I find on my own. I'm pretty sure if you go with preferred vendors you might get a discount from the hall on feeding them, etc. ??

ps I've heard great things about Patken...

if you do a search you can find a few posts with a list of ?s for photo/video.

I found it helpful to look at a lot of albums at each studio. I asked which photographer took the shots that I found the most appealing. You should then make sure that you have in your contract that the photographer that appelas the most to you is the one that will be working your wedding.

Bear in mind that the 'preferred' vendors at the halls pay a fee to the hall to be on that list. You usually don't have to pay to feed them. I'm not taking anything away from their work, I just think it's important to know that they aren't on their list based on their work alone.

I was not a big fan of 'wedding photographers'. I wanted someone who could do some unique things and who would give our wedding a 'documentary' feel. We opted for Jonathan at http://www.makarion.com for our photographer. I don't like traditional wedding shots and I didn't want to give up any part of my day for posed photos if I could avoid it.

I am definitely looking at Patken. I made an appointment with them for next Monday. I am excited. How about you? Are you going to meet with them?Where is the wedding going to be at?

I would look on my own, I mean consider the caterers 'preferred' vemdors, but find someone who really understands what you want for your wedding day.

When meeting with photographers I never have a list of questions. I just act like I am meeting a new person and see if we hit it off. That is what is important. If I feel the phtographer soesn't get me or understand what I am looking for I will know within minutes.

Secondly look a lots of albums and pictures they have available. A lot of times they only put their best work forward so I will ask to see something they have done recently. When I met with Micheal at North Island Phtography he was working on proofs from a wedding he just did and the bride hadn't even seen them yet! I liked that! he was honest and up front.

My two picks would be North Island and Leli Photography!

Good luck!

Welcome!
We booked Patken for photo and video. They're not cheap (but is anything wedding related really cheap?) but they're not expensive either. They will work within your budget. They have been really great to work with so far and I love their work. You should definitely check them out.
