Photography

Well, through the magic of Facebook I found of two of my very good friends from college are wedding photographers:

Kien Tran Photography

and

Lori Fowlkes

The want to shoot my wedding (they're also friends with each other) and I've asked them for a price...

Kien will do it for the price of his plane ticket and hotel stay... I'm not sure about Lori yet.

Would you do it?

Re: Photography

it depends on the quality of their work and also if i feel they would rather be at my wedding to party or to do a job...Its tricky when you have friends do a service for you like that, sometimes its best not to combine friendship and business, it can get messy...
BUT
If you feel they can be professional and be a good vendor without any problems i say why not...

Re: Photography

I made the mistake of trying to mix friendship and business. Would NEVER do it again. It tends to get messy if you don't like something. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's completely what you think best.

I am soo sorry if this seems mean or if you think i am spoiling your idea but this is totally from the bottom of my heart. My best friend is a photographer and she's one of my bridesmaids about 2 weeks ago she told me that she couldn't be in the bp because she hates church but then she apologized the same day and told me she will do it for me ...my point is that my best friend is so undecided about everything and imagine if i would of hired her as my photographer i am not saying this will happen to you and trust me the money saving is taunting to go towards a friend but i don't recommend you do it. I have a cousin who is a dj he does weddings etc and i wanted to choose him for our wedding but FH doesn't think is a good idea because sometimes when you deal with family or friends things go wrong. I really wish you luck in your decision but its something I wouldn't do don't take this the wrong way please

I know mixing biz with friendship is never fun -- but since you just found out they are photographers -- I am assuming you arent super close anymore. Would they have been invited to the wedding? If not, then hiring them could be a good option. The pics on their site look great. And the price seems right (plane ticket and hotel)...does this also include an album?

My one concern...how will you pick between the two' Will you offend one if you pick the other?

Re: Photography

i would weigh out all the pros and cons
price
quality
friends and business
professionalism
etc

see if its truly worth it for you.

this could be a major way to cut donw on price but remember these pictures will last a lifetime so only choose them if you are 100% confident

I don't know about it because you would have to pay for their hotel and airfare.

I completely agree. I checked out their websites and both of them have great quality work and the websites are very professional and not just something that was put together on a whim. I think it may be worth taking the chance, just make sure you get a detailed contract and have everyone on the same page!

Re: Photography

hmm well its tough because you'll be mixing friendship and business as someone said... but, if the price is right (the pics look good) then go for it. However, i would also check out a few other photogs just in case

It's up to you, but I wouldn't do it. I would hate to have something go wrong and then have a friendship be ruined.

Yeah... I'm on the fence. I might just invite them to the wedding as guests and if they feel like shooting a few great candids... awesome... if not, oh well.

I'm going to talk to FH about it, I'm a little uneasy myself... No, due to the distance we're not as close as we used to be (I went to college with them... Kien moved back to Canada, Lori lives in VA near school with her husband and children).

I would do it, but what if they can't fly all the way out here after I pay for the trip... I'd be livid and without any photographers.

They are ACTUAL photographers.... and do plenty of weddings a year.... but i don't know. I wouldn't choose one over the other they'd both work together for my wedding.

Considering they dont live too far...the flights might not be too pricey...and probably significantly less than what a vendor you dont know would charge. Their pics looked great...and what I like best...is that you would get two different style of photos
