Photography Dilema

Photography Dilema

Ok heres our new situation...
My cousin who owns a small photgraphy business on the side has offered to do our wedding pics for free (which is very nice of him). I have seen some of his work and it is beautiful. He worked for a well known photography studio while in college and never really ventured from it once he got his job with Bloomberg TV (he's a camerman).

I'm just nervous that he may not have enough experience with photography to let him do them. Although I don't think he would have offered if he didn't feel confident enough in his work...

The other thing is that since we're on a budget...we don't want to spend a ton of money on pictures...and for what we have budgeted for photos it doesn't look like we'll get good quality or a good package...

Of course we'll sit with my cousin and look at his work more closely...but my question is would you go for it knowing that if he doesn't get it right the first time there is no second time...or would you make your photography budget a bit bigger to get pictures you want...even though you really can't afford to make it bigger?????

If he takes really great pictures, I'd go for it. I mean, unless he's the crazy adventuress type that does stuff on a whim, Idon't think he'd offer if he didn't think he'd do a great job for you.

what if you also got a professional on the side for just an hour or two? That's gotta be pretty inexpensive? Just in case his pics don't turn out that great, at least you'll have some others by a professional as well?

i would hire a professional photographer for a few hours to do the ceremony and formal shots and then let your cousin do the rest.

I would hire someone else to go some of the formal shots in addition to your cousin. I would tell him that you are doing it because you want him to be able to enjoy the weddding as a guest and don't want him to feel like he can't enjoy himself a little bit.

Shamrock thats a great idea!

My cousin is doing my photographs (although not for free) and when I asked her, I did say that I didn't want her to miss out on the wedding. So its a valid concern. Getting a professional for a few hours is a great idea - that way you don't insult your cousin either.

I would suggest having your cousin take all the formal shots and give him a SPECIFIC must-take list. Then I would get in touch with 12th night or silverfox and hire a photojournalist to take candid pics for a couple of hours.

I think hiring a photog for a few hours is a great idea! I know my photog has hourly rates. If you want his info let me know!
