So... where did you start when looking for photography and Djs? I'm in this strange place of no one else in my family or friends having been married in New York (pick a state, it's been anywhere else).
After so much agonizing I set a date and location. Whew. We were very very very picky about atmosphere of the location.
Looking at DJ and Photography...... I'm hoping to make progress over Thanksgiving into the winter, as its one of the few slow seasons at work.
Anyone have a good system? What sites did you check reviews on? How did you judge their work
DJ - We've got some specifics. One who speaks spanish would be helpful with FH's family. Also, we have a lot of very offbeat music requests as bride/groom like industrial, house, darkwave music. We want to sneak a song or two in addition to very traditional latino. God help our dj.
Photography- I work doing some photography, I'm picky. That said - FH and I can't pose to save our lives, we'll need someone good at candids.
I'ma budget bride too, so $5,000 for the wedding isn't an option.

Re: Photography & DJs
I'd recommend looking through the vendor listings on this site and through the reviews for vendor ideas. For photo, I looked at all their websites and got a feel for if I liked a particular photographer's style or not. I suggest just making appointments to meet with a few that caught your interest.
I'm booked with North Island Photo and having a great experience so far. I am so awkward and hate taking photos and he made our E-pics amazing, I was shocked. I'd also recommend looking at: Love More Photo Jadore Love Photo Duet
Good Luck!

Re: Photography & DJs
For photographers, it depends on what type of look you want. If you want modern mixed with traditional I would pay a visit to:
I visted 3 of these vendors & they were very nice & helpful. Go to your venues showcase and meet with the in house photographers. That is a good starting point. The rest just visit their website & read the reviews from fellow brides on here :)
I can't help you on the DJ part since I haven't picked one yet either LOL

Re: Photography & DJs
We used In the Mix...and we needed either our DJ or MC to be spanish...the MC we fell in love with was black so our dj was spanish and it was a great mix for our guests!

Re: Photography & DJs
Most DJ's now have spanish speaking MC's. We are using Variety Music. They have a Spanish MC. So far we really like them. They are quick at getting back to you and can answer just about any question they have. They all also have an incredibly long play list with just about every time of music. You should check Variety Music!!

Re: Photography & DJs
A good system for checking reviews is to just google the name...and any website their names pop up on with reviews read. Wedding wire is a good place for reviews.
