Hey everyone...me and my fiance are currently struggling in our search for a photographer. We have met with a few that we didn't particularly like and have heard that others are way out of our budget, which is pretty inflexible. Currently we are seriously considering Bella Pictures, who has some good things and bad things said about them on this board and overall make me VERY nervous, just because of lack of word of mouth recommendations.
Basically we want very basic photography package. No parent albums (I want to do them with the negatives afterwards...complicated family, would have to get way too many parent albums), no videography, 8-10 hrs of coverage, flush album for us. The wedding is at Lombardi's on the Sound at the PJCC...it seems like the house photographers are all very expensive. we were looking to spend somewhere in the 2K range. Can anyone offer any suggestions/help??? Thanks!!!!

Check on ADA. They offer a $1200 day shoot w/ proofs (in a nice album). You can make parents albums on shutterfly, ofoto, etc. ( I have the same situation w/ parent confusion). You can get a bunch of diff. packages w/ them. Call Peggy, tell her what you have to spend and see what they can do. I'm sure they could customize a package to your budget...I'm paying several hundred under 5K. Not sure what 2007-8 prices will be though. They are WORTH IT!

I paid under 5K with a videographer, parent albums, enlargement, 12 hours of service, 3 DVDs of the video, etc. If you talkt to them outline what you want and they will work with you.

Ok I emailed Duet, hopefully hear back from them tomorrow if they are available and can go from there...
Early on i got contacted by LewMax...anyone here have anything to say about them? They certainly seem very aggressive on the Vendors helping Brides board, but aren't on the vendor list and there are no real reviews on them here. Made me nervous, and i guess they just got lost in the shuffle with everything else going on since. Thanks!

We are using Art-istic Images in bohemia. They have packages to fit everyones needs. They can customize a package to what your needs are.
I third Duet, jmjbride's and xcalystax's photos are amazing!

we HATED photographer hunting... for that exact reason. Total sticker shock We originally wanted to spend under 2k.
I surfed the web for hours and hours.... All the portfolios that we liked were of photographers costing above $5k!!!!
We ended up booking mark kaufmann / angelica studios. We struck a deal where we only get proofs and no album, to cut several hundred $$ off the package cost.... still way over 2k, but at least not 5k......
that was the major budget buster of our wedding.... mom yelled at me for a couple days and then got over it....

I recommend them as well. i spoke with them on the phone, but since i'm not creative what so ever, i didn't book them cause i needed someone who can do albums. but it seems like 12th night is exactly what ur looking for.

We're booked with Glenmar Studio. http://www.glenmarstudio.com/ Our reception hall recommended them and my fiancee liked their sample albums. They're located in Roslyn, NY. Maybe give them a call - I didnt think they were too pricey and have video options as well. Good luck!

I used Patken, but I'm not sure if you can get a package for $2000. Maybe, I'm just not sure. I mean, if you're just looking for pics the day of....I doubt it. They are on the expensive side. It's also going to br a huge pain scanning all the pix if they don't give u the proofs on a cd.
I think bella has great stuff!!!!! if they will do it for $2000 I say go for it!!!

if u chose not to use bella, i think u can find individual photographers here and there to fit ur price.
maybe call Patken and see what they say? They do awesome & amazing work!
also, good choice by picking Lombardi's on the sound! i got married at Villa Lombardi's and there and Lombardis on the sound is amazinf & breathtaking, the food is delicious and the service is amazing!
how come no videography? patken foes photography & videography and they'll give u a good deal if pick both !

i don't recommend them do to what you want. they don't give you negatives. you have to go through them for all your album needs. i would recommend 12th night.

Thanks for all the suggestions...yeah we heard great things about 12th night, but they werent available for our date. Bummer. We've also heard good things about Patken too, and are currently looking into them and seeing if they can work with us.
No videography because 1) high cost and 2) too obtrusive, we feel.
