FH and I took our epics yesterday. They called today to say that our epics were ready, so FH went to go get the CD so we can pick out the pictures that we like the best. Apparently we can only get proof quality pictures now and once the wedding is all over and all the albums are done and paid for will we get final *touched up* pictures. FH feels like his pictures are being 'held hostage.'
Is this normal???? I have no idea!!!

that's a little weird...I know for sure we get a CD with all of our imaged from our e-pics after we take out e-pics....hmm I would inquire about that one a little more

I know a company that did that but for wedding pictures, you could not own high res copies for 3 years!! It basically forced you to order things like albums, prints and thank yous from their company.
My photographers had an 'a la carte' menu and the E-shoot was separate from e-shoot high res pics on a disk (meaning you could have the e-shoot and then order whatever you want from their website). Regardless we still get them with in a few weeks of the shoot, not after the wedding!
Maybe if you pay a fee you can get them sooner? I'm sure, though, if you knew this was the case you might have thought twice about the package. I mean, what good are engagement photos if you can't use them for STD, sign in books, blow up prints for the reception, etc??
