Okay, I'm a total idiot when it comes to photography. What is photojournalism and do you really need to add it to your package?
From the examples I've seen it looks like mostly candid shots and a lot in black in white. If you don't add a photojournalist to your package, do you just get a bunch of portrait shots or does your photographer still stick around for the ceremony and take some candids?
Thanks ladies!

Re: Photojournalism
I think photojournalism is more 'artistic' yes, that greatly means candids, but its not so much posed shots. a photographer who does traditional photography will take traditional pics. it doesnt mean you wont have any 'candid' shots but they will be of important things....unity candle, cutting the cake, 1st dance. photojouranilism i think is more throughout the whole day regardless of the specific events. thats my take on it....

Re: Photojournalism
honestly, i think every photographer has a different definition of what it is. some have an additional 'photojournalistic' photographer, which will shoot all B&W... others just have a more photojournalist style...
Technically, photojournalism is telling a story through pictures...
so someone that has a photojournalist style should be trying to capture the moment and will take a lot of candid photos... but that doesnt mean a traditional photographer wont try to do the same thing...
we are having a photographer that has more of a photojournalistic style... but he will still set up a few traditional shots for us... but knows that if while we are waiting in a group... if there is something funny going on to take that shot...i dont think all traditonal photgraphers would do that... it all depends i think in what you tell them you want...

Re: Photojournalism
I agree that every photographer has a different definition of this. Some of the places I have looked at charge additional money for photojournalism and some just specialize in this. CJB88 desribed it perfectly.
I think I am going to book someone who does both. I don't want all posed shots but I also don't want too many 'artsy' shots. I think the photographer asks you to list your 'must have' shots.

Re: Photojournalism
I love the photojournalistic style. I had seen it done after viewing my friend's wedding on PICTAGE.COM. Her photographer was able to capture every intimate moment of her wedding day from her hair and make up to the very end. She had traditional formal poses as well as the pictures that told a story. I hope to achieve this with my photography as well.

Re: Photojournalism
It seems like the photojournalism you've seen really didn't do it for you. A lot of times a photojournalist will really try to capture moments, rathe than posed pics and capture it from a more creative angle than a traditional photogrpaher, but you absolutely do NOT have to add this to your package. it's hot right now, but awhile ago it really wasn't done. Your photographer will definitely shoot candids!!! You have to look at the photographer's book and style and see if you really like the work and if the traditional photographer will capture all you need, amny of them will. I know I must sound like a by now, but I really do love the photographer we're thinking of booking. He had a lot of BEAUTIFUL candids all on his own. it was Chuck from Artisan. I really want to add the photojournalist, because that's the style I love, but he definitey didn't push us to do it or make us feel like we needed it, and actually his price to add one was cheaper than most. Good Luck.
I'm really passionate about photography, which is why I'm always running my mouth off about it

Re: Photojournalism
We aren't adding a second photographer. We went to see one photographer who was showing us photojournalistic images that we so obvilously posed - the same image was in all of his books, just different bride and groom. I think you should get a photographer you have confidence in. Most of them while stay as long as you want - any photographer will stay for your ceremony, CH and reception. And remember, if your photographer uses a digitial camera, it is really easy to change a color photo to BW, or sepia.
I agree with other ladies who recommend having a list of 'must have' photos. For me, I love photos of the bride and grooming walking away from the camera, so I will be sure to show that to the photographer during our last meeting. Good luck!
