photos: are two shooters/studio made albums worth it?

Hey Ladies and Gents:

so FW and I met with our first photographer; we've also got meetings with Jeffrey Studios and Patken lined up. While the photographer was really cool, and the price was pretty darn good (especially considering it guaranteed two shooters), it didn't stack up all that well price-wise to other packages I've seen so far in that range.

We've also seen some places offer you the camera work and proofs for a pretty low price.

1) Is a second photographer really worth it?
2) Are studio prints really worth it?

Thoughts? Personal experiences? Hall pass?

tia,

We have only booked one photographer, but are seriously considering a second one. My thought is if you have two photographers they are going to have different styles and maybe one might capture something the other one didn't. I just have to convince my FH that is trully worth it.

we had 1 photographer and he was amazing! we got almost 900 proofs. IMO, that was MORE than enough for me.

as far as getting the actual proofs, TOTALLY WORTH IT! you can see detail on prints that doesn't come across on the PC. our photographer provided both printed proofs and the digital files on 2 DVD's. we were able to make reprints and enlargements with those files.

I wouldn't have had it any other way!

Cool. Who did you use? Did you get albums with him or someplace else?

I guess I should be asking three questions:

1) two shooters worth it?
2) studio printed proofs worth it?
3) studio albums worth it?

Can't always predict what will be worth it.
Most important thing is to observe the quality of the work and the ratio of traditional to photojournalistic.

I had two photogs b/c I wanted a lot of photojournalistic.....but I didn't get it, even with 2 photogs.

Overall, I was disappointed with my proofs and now I wish I had not prepaid for a studio album.

Best option, in retrospect, would've been to not prepay for the albums and have the option of adding them later.

printed proofs, I do believe are worth it. It's too hard to view that many pix on the computer.

If it's cheaper to print them all thru Shutterfly and you don't mind doing the 'work' to do that, then that would also probably be fine. And you don't have to print the 'bloopers.'

After meeting with six photographers, we choose Spelman Studios and the two photographers were definitely worth the price. We were able to get two totally different perspectives on our day. The candid images really capture all the special behind the scenes moments. We also thought that female photographers were a bonus because they understand all the details that a Bride finds important.

Best of luck in your search!

Funny though, because my FW teases me a little about being so involved in wedding planning; she's not what I'd call romantic or sentimental.

IMHO, a second photographer is indeed worth it. As one photographer said to me, a single person cannot snap a pic of the seeing the for the first time and vice versa ?simultaneously. Aslo, the second photographer should set up in a location different from the first so you get reverse angle shots. Like this:

As for studio albums, I don't have mine yet, so I can't comment, and even if I did have it, I would have no basis for comparison.

2 photogs are definitely worth it. We almost didn't do that but we are glad we did.

I really liked the samples I saw at Jeffrey Studios, but they were booked on my date.

FW feels like since we're going to do a videographer that one photog is good for us (unless the deal the place is giving is so awesome that we can do two). I'm a little worried that we won't see pix of everyone. we'll see.

so, the remaining two questions:

1) printed proofs worth it?
2) studio produced albums- worth it?

Seriously, the studio albums seem pretty darn expensive. as in, we could blow up our own photos and put them in a pretty cool album for substantially cheaper.

Thoughts? Anyone have any diy advice? Is making your own album so bad you shouldn't do it?

there are quite a few 06ers and i saw on 05er who have created their own albums using shutterfly.com, snapfish.com, and photoshop. once i decide on which pictures i'll be working with, i think that's what i'm going to do. money is tight (we want to buy a house in 07).

i got my proofs via email. the hardest part with non-printed proofs has been the speed, or lack thereof, at which i weed out the pics i don't want. i like, that no matter happens, i already own a copy of my pictures.

hope i was of some help
