Yes, it's the really expensive program but it does so much!
Theres a cheap version at Sam's Club (maybe $100 or so) that has some of the features -- not sure which. It's like the mini version. If you're just looking to do basic things like monograms, etc it might be best to get that.
The full version is like $600 I think. I've drooled over photoshop for ages (I'm a really good artist but usually just draw/paint... the only computer program I had was Microsoft paint ) and FH bought me Photoshop for Chanukkah -- just in time to do wedding stuff!
He got me the 2nd most recent version (I think it's from 05?) and it was about half price, brand new. It has more than enough features and I'm still learning how to use it but I love it! It's a great way to test out different color combos or airbrush pictures (I photoshopped an LIWers makeup trial that she didn't like, to show how it should have looked) and do layout stuff.
Is it worth it? I think unless you're a graphic designer there's really no reason to get the 08 version and getting the 05 version is a great way to get it for half price. More than enough features and some of my friends who have photoshop with work have the version before that!
I wasn't sure how/where to find it online, but I like having the full version.

If you arent artsy and don't think you'd use it long term I don't think it's worth the money. I plan to use this to edit photos, do layouts for things, and draw pictures and just play around -- it's just great timing that I now have it for wedding stuff.
I'm sure there are other programs that are cheaper that let you do the simpler things, or the Sam's Club version. Or maybe someone can lend you their copy and you can install it on your computer? (not sure how that works and if you can, but it's an option)
Depending on what you need, ladies on here are very helpful and might make what you need for free. Or, even if it's $5 or so for someone to make you monograms or a layout it's cheaper than buying the program. Just something to think about.

I am going to thank you so much!! i was also thinking of getting it for FH and then using it myself. he is very artistic, hes making our card box, place cards and table numbers (movie tickets) and he would get a ton of use out of it...im going to get to sams club in a week or so and check it out! I appreciate the advice!

Oh and thank you for the compliment! It was really fun to play around and it's amazing what you can do in photoshop. You can pick up pigment from one area and airbrush it on with whatever pixel-size spray and whatever opacity you want. you can do all kinds of crazy stuff. I even showed FH my work and he was excited to see me using photoshop
I've also used it to edit different cakes and test out color combos.
Ex: The original picture was the spiral. I edited out the flowers going down the side in pic 2, and then copied them to fill in the tiers in pic 3.
It's obviously not great quality or anything but I just used it as an idea to test out different looks. Maybe one day I'll get to the point where it looks totally real
omg thank you so much!!!! cant beat that!!! ill look into it tomorrow!!!!
thanks for the help!!!

haha thank you. I still only know how to use a few features but I think I'm getting a lot better. I've only had it a little over a month There are some online video tutorials that are really helpful.

Re: Photoshop
you have to figure out if your going to use it or not. If you just need something to correct color quickly with a touch of a button or just to do a simple selective color and rest b&w then go get a simple photo software package that are easily under $150-100. If you want to really learn color correcting, advanced editing techniques, layers, opacities, and more then get the tutorial and a good book and learn it. Maybe take a boces class then buy the program.
I have a degree in design and I still don't know the program as well as I should for color correcting. I can do many other things but to truly correct fleshtones is a hard thing espeically if the photograph is horrible. I also don't have the time to play in it anymore or afford the specialized classes for professionals.
