photoshop pros, help please

Ladies,

Is there a way to do a blurred edge or something more artistic, like brush strokes, but just around the perimeter of the photo? when I'm doing it, it is applying the filter to the WHOLE photo, and that's not what i want - i just want the edges...

help please :) thanks!!

i'm using PS CS2

If this gets confusing let me know and i can explain more.

Step one: Open the layer manager make a copy of the image named background. Turn off the background layer.

Step Two:You can apply a mask to the photo around the areas you want to blur or edit (if you want to do the edges invert the area selected)Then the filter will only affect the areas uncovered. There is an icon at the bottom of the tool bar that applys the mask.

Now you can use your filters to edit the areas you want
