Photoshop/photo gurus...

Hello lovely ladies... I need your help - I've mastered the half black and white, half color pictures thanks to you :) now im having trouble though when i go to print those pictures through an online print company or put them in a photo book like shutterfly or mypublisher.... i'm getting warnings about quality....

now, my originals are all greater than 1 MB....then I do the layers and desaturate and go to save as a jpeg and the file becomes ~400 or 500 kb after I choose Maximum image quality....

I'm at my wit's end.... and love this effect, but can't seem to figure out how to get it to work printing

Please help - thanks! :)

Re: Photoshop/photo gurus...

usually i make all my changes, then once i am happy i flatten all the layers then save it as a jpeg... it should maintain its quality and not shrink fromt he original photo size...

if you dont flatten all the layers sometimes it automatically saves as a .psd, which wont work with those photo programs...

The resolution of your images may be too low and that's why the companies are warning about quality. To check the resolution of an image in photoshop open the file, go to 'image', then 'image size'. The resolution should be 300 pixels/inch. If the resolution is much lower than this you should re-scan the images at the correct resolution, unfortunately you can't just boost the res of a low res image, it doesn't work that way. There sould be an option for this when you scan. If that still doesn't work, check the color mode (image, mode). If it's CMYK try RGB and vice versa, the company may have a color requirement. FM me if you have more questions, I do this for a living so I'm more than happy to help Good luck!

Hmm.... OK, so the original picture is 9.01 MB when I go to image size... even when i flatten the layers it's still 9.01 MB... now I go to save as a jpeg in PShop and bam, it's down to a measly 250 kb file! :(

Go to image size. If your image is at 72 dpi and huge dimensions then follow these instructions. Otherwise disregard.

Go to Width and Height click on the right tab where it says inches or picas etc select percentage. go to your dpi and put in 300 dpi. Hit okay.

Once that is done go back to size and see what your overall size is. If its not HUGE then double check all images are flatten - save as jpg (as long this is not for commercial printing purposes).
