Hey girls - Just wondering what your take is on gowns that have pick-ups (some people call them pinches?) in the skirt.
I'm trying to decide between 2 dresses, one with and one without, and the lady helping me said that maybe the pick-ups were a trend that wouldn't be in style anymore in 2007?? She wasn't putting them down but she knew I was struggling to decide.....
Any input? I'll post pics of the 2 gowns if I can figure out how.
TIA!!

Re: Pick-Ups
Hi date twin! Welcome! I am pretty new here myself.
I personally don't like pick-ups for my bridal gown. I decided on an A-line. Howvere, I have TOWNS of pick-up gowns.
My BMs are wearing pick-up dresses. It looks really elegant.
I think it's really up to you! How do they look on? Do you have any pics?

Re: Pick-Ups
I love the pick-up look but when I tried on a gown that had it I wasn't to happy with how it looked on me.

Re: Pick-Ups
I personally like the pickups. I did not think I would... until of course I tried it on. the girl at the bridal salon told me, when I asked about whether they would be in style in 07, that wedding dresses are a year ahead of their time, because usually a bride selects her dress about a year or so from the wedding. If you like it, dont worry about what you think the trend will be in the future. If you feel beautiful and radiant when you are in the dress, that is what should make your decision. Good Luck

Re: Pick-Ups
I wanted a more fitted and sheath dress for my wedding and I ended up with a dress that a little fuller than A-Line with pickups.. it's gorgeous, but, if I would have know that, it was what everyone was wearing I may have thought twice about it

Re: Pick-Ups
I kind of found most pick up dresses really uncomfotable and scratchy. However, I did find a Maggie Sottero that was soo beautiful with the pick ups that I'm getting it. I don't think it will be out of style next year. The traditional straight dress has been around for soo long that this change is nice. I want something different.

Re: Pick-Ups
Well, first off, a lot of girls are buying their dresses now for 2007 weddings, so they may not SELL them in 2007, but people will certainly be wearing them.
As for my personal opinion... I'm not such a fan. I think they take a very specific body type to look good on, otherwise they just kind of look like big frothy cupcakes to me, and not really in a good way. And, as another bride once said, 'I want to look like I should have a tiara on my head, not a birthday candle.'
On the right person, they can be beautiful, but on most people... just not to my taste.

Re: Pick-Ups
I love the picks up....I am not sure if will be Get them either....Its my favorite type of dress because its so different..however I do also like the traditional dresses..so I am still debating as well...
If you find the dress that you love...then get it...you'll know...
but there is nothing wrong with getting pick ups..

OK here's a pic of the dress with the pick-ups in the skirt.
It is defiantly a personal choice. You have to put the dress on and feel right in it. I don't think it will be out of style by next year because it is more popular then ever now and I think more designers will keep making them.
I did not even try a pick-up on so I can't give an opinion on what looked better on me. I went with A-Line because I think it is better for my body type.

Here is my honest advice....Don't be opposed to anything...try every style on...if YOU like it...who cares what's in style next year? You must feel comfortable in the dress!!!! I had been set on a-line...any place that I went to I kept saying 'just bring out a-line dresses' and I wasn't happy with anything. I finally listened to Lydia from Lilettes who had been telling me to try on this one dress ( i had gone twice!) and when I did, I fell in love with it, made my sister and mother cry, and had to have it...guess what...it had pick-ups! Something that I said I would NEVER wear!!!!

Re: Pick-Ups
Check out my album... You can see my opinion!
PS: Every wedding dress is 'trendy' at some point - puffy sleeves, padded shoulders, hats, tea length wedding gowns, trumpet skirt, lace dresses, halters - they go in and out of style through the years.
Whatever you feel best in - pick-up or no pick-up is the dress for you

I started a thread on this like a month ago. it was pretty much a split. Either you love pickups or you hate them. I fell in love with a maggie Sottero with pickups, but ended up going a more traditional route at the last minute. If you love pickups go for it! It;s different and a beautiful look.
