Picked up my ring today...Update at bottom
I really am at a loss what to do.
FH and I did not get our rings at the same store, because for the ring I wanted, his store wanted way over the amount we were willing to spend. So, on a whim, we went to a store up the road, and found a ring with the same specs for half the price. So we bought it. To his credit, FH told me to sleep on it, he had a funny feeling, and I said no, I wanted to order it.
So we went today to pick it up, and sign number one should have been that it came in a standard size, not 4.75 as it should have been. They claimed that Benchmark, the manufacturer, doesn't let you order sizes...which we thought was weird, because FH has a Benchmark and his was ordered special size. So they said they would size it for us, and it would be ready in a half hour. We went down the road to pick up FH's ring in the meantime. He was provided with documentation, warranty, appraisal, and explanation of the 'Benchmark 14k' stamp inside for authenticity.
So we go back to the store that we purchased my ring at, and it's ready. I try it on, and it fits. I look inside, and see a 14k stamped, but no Benchmark, and assume it's because it was sized and rubbed off. We asked them for the warranty form too, and they got a little sheisty about it, saying they weren't sure which model it was because the salesman who wrote up the order wasn't there, but then I said I knew which one it was in the catalog, so if they showed me the catalog I could tell them. They almost reluctantly did, and gave us the 'paperwork'. We pay and leave.
In the car, FH is already starting to get worried, second guess things, etc...asks to see the ring. After closer inspection, it's scuffed and dinged all over. It's also not round, but oblong, like a really bad sizing job. We go back inside, and ask for it to be polished. They do, and we look, and it seemed ok. So back out to the car...we notice yet ANOTHER ding in it. Also, FH says that the 14K is to the left, not the right...meaning it is not the same order as his, the authentic ring. At that point, we weren't going to go in for a third time, so we just left.
We go home and immediately plug in the item number they gave us, and it was wrong. We quickly found the right number, but looking at the stock photo, it looked NOTHING like my ring. For one, my ring has 13 stones, and the channel is completely straight at the ends. The photo has 12 stones, and at the end of the channel it is rounded against the contour of the stones. This, coupled with the poor quality of appearance of the ring, leads us to believe that we were lied to, and the ring we thought we ordered was NOT the ring we received.
So now we don't know what to do or how to handle this. It has been paid in full, and sized. The policy states that we cannot do anything now. I feel this should be null and void because clearly this is not the ring we ordered. Honestly, I'm afraid to even get it appraised, because I wouldn't be surprised if it's not even real stones.
FH is kind of mad at me about this, because he said I didn't listen to him when he said in the first place we should sleep on it, and thinks now we're going to have to waste more money by buying a second ring. I really don't know what to do or how to handle this, but I truly believe that we got screwed![]()
