Picking a Photographer

Hey there,

I'm new to the message board. This is my first post. I'm trying to find a great photographer and with so many choices, I don't know how to narrow it down. I've seen a few photographers in person so far and nothing has hit me. I've viewed lots of photographer websites too, and not much has impressed me either. This is so hard! Most of my decisions so far (gown, limo, reception hall) took like a day or less to decide because it just 'hit me' as the right thing to pick.

I think what's making it difficult is I want a photographer that is both traditional and photojournalistic. It seems most are either or, and actually most seem all photojournalistic. I really want to make sure I have those traditional poses to show my kids one day (ie, cutting the cake, looking out the car, etc). So many photographer websites just have contemporary or candid shots on there.

I really don't want to take too long to decide and risk the chance of missing out on a great photographer. With less than a year to my wedding, do I be picky and maybe never find the right fit, or go with someone I just think is OK?

Any advice?

Pick a few that work with your budget and then go to meet them. Make sure your personalities fit and that they know exactly what you want. Don't wait around forever looking for the right one b/c chances are, you won't find him/her. Take a look at their albums (not online, in your hands) and then make a decision. I know what you mean about wanting both traditional and photojournalistic pictures - tons of photographers do that...and if they happen to do one style more than the other, just tell them what you want and they'll accomodate you. Keep in mind that they take about 2000 pics and only 100 end up in your album. You'll have a lot to pic from.

Good Luck!

I actually am going with North Island...He does mostly photjournalistic which I wanted. But if I hadn't gone with him I would have used Visual Concepts...They were awesome and they do both posed and photojournalistic. It's a husband and wife team. I had a REALLY had time choosing but it sounds like they would be perfect for you!

First off, congrats!

I think my photog was a nice blend of candid, photojournalistic, and traditional. There is a link to my review in my profile. He recently became a vendor on here. He's a decent price, too. Good luck!
