Picking dates for RSVP/Reply cards on the Invitations?

I just got my proofs from my invitation company...Wedding day is Oct 8th and I set an RSVP day of Aug. 20th, 2010.

Is that too early? Whats a good time-frame?

The guy I got the invitations from said 5 weeks before is a good date

I decided to go with June 3rd. My wedding date is July 17th. I want a little longer than a month so I just randomly picked june 3rd

I would say no earlier than Sept 1st but make sure you figure out when Labor Day is you dont want the mail messing you up.
