So FMIL has been telling us her & FFIL are paying the bill for the rehearsal dinner (bill off of our shoulders!! ) but here's my question... Do we get to pick where we have it or that is their choice? She was going onnnn to me last night that NO WAY ARE YOU ALLOWED TO CHOOSE THE PLACE! I was going to pick a place that had good reviews, food & not expensive but ....guess not
Also would you be having just the bridal party & immediate family ? My bridal party is small 3 girls & 3guys. So adding on would be there husbands/wives or long term bf/gf. If I was one of them I would want to bring along my significant other. If she doesn't allow it, it looks like I'll probably have to pay extra.
Help with your thoughts please

Re: picking the rest. for rehearsal dinner...
In my opinion I would think that if your in-laws have agreed to pay, it would be assumed that the bridal party's spouse/so would be included.
also, i guess if they are paying they technically can choose whatever place they want, but since your the bride it would be nice if they asked your opinion or at least get your approval for the place they choose.

If they're paying then they get to pick.
Also I would assume that their husbands/wives/whatever would be invited.

I guess they get to pick, but I would think they might take your ideas into consideration. I could never imagine not inviting the bp's significant others.

Re: picking the rest. for rehearsal dinner...
I am in a similar situation. My fil are paying for the dinner. At first I was being my control freak self and got all upset that I couldn't plan it. But then my mom told me to stop being an a-hole and let them plan it. So I realized I trust fmil to pick a place with great food and what else is there really to worry about lol.
My advice is to just ask her to run the plan by you before its finalized.

We luck out since FIL's live in CT and we are getting married on LI so me and my mom have to pick some where to have the RH dinner.

FIL's are paying. We picked the place as well as who is invited which will include bridal party and their significant others.

This - they said they wanted to pick the place; FH told them where I wanted to have it and they were fine w/ it b/c it was a place they would have picked themselves. Whew!

if she's not planning to pay for all the SO's, then maybe you can contribute the money towards that? it's better than paying for the entire thing!

Re: picking the rest. for rehearsal dinner...
So my FMIL is paying for this as well (but this is more or less the only thing in the wedding she is paying for) so my family has decided to invite about 50 total to the RD (which is how most of the RD i have been to have been) mostly bridal party, family, and OOT guests. While i am sure she was shocked by the number-- when it comes down to it i just have to do what is right for me. I tried to give a few suggestions but they are going to be the ones to make the final decision as to where it is, and that is fine with me.

I am having the same issues. i have a decent size bridal party and most places want a 30 person minimum to get a private room. which if we invite people with guests may not be a problem. but i dont know who i am able to invite ans who i am not!

Re: picking the rest. for rehearsal dinner...
I totally understand the fact that their paying for it they should pick the place. I was only trying to help her. I was going to suggest a few places & she like SNAPPED at me ..& then she kept repeating it & repeating its only for immediate family & the bridal party.. And from comments above.. I include OOT guests also? Ouch she won't like this... Looks like I'll be putting out the extra money for SO's to attend & OOT guests...

Re: picking the rest. for rehearsal dinner...
My future in-laws are paying, but since they're not familiar with the area around my church, they've asked for some input from me and my parents. I have a list of places to give them so that they can check it out and book what they like/want to pay for.
I too have a small party - 3 girls, 2 guys. They will bring their significant others. We just haven't decided about extended family. I would like to include some aunts/uncles, but since I'm not paying, I won't make that decision alone.

Re: picking the rest. for rehearsal dinner...
We did not expect FFIL to pay so we picked the place and pretty much said this is where we want to have it it's going to cost this much, so whatever you can chip in is appreciated
