I am new to this whole process and pretty much have no clue about anything.
There are sooo many reception halls to look at...does anyone have any ideas on narrowing down the search? I like 12 places and don't want to visit all of them :(

Re: Picking the right hall??
Hey there and welcome!
I would say before you get started figure out what it is that is most important to you and FH.
1. Having one wedding at a time? 2. Being by the water? 3. A place that has a ceremony? 4. Somewhere close to the church? 5. What is your budget? 6. Nassau/Suffolk/Queens/NYC etc.
Once you have answered the main questions you should be able to narrow it down to 3-4 and then I suggest you go and look at those. Most of the girls on here are going to tell you that their place is the best [and they are all fabulous] but make sure you really think about what kind of wedding you want and then go from there.
If you want there are several threads circulating with info on the prices of the RH's for 09' I'm sure one of the girls can post it for you, I just don't have it saved.
Good luck and welcome!!!

Re: Picking the right hall??
Great advice...also make sure you decide if you want a day or night wedding. We wanted open and airy so when we went to a few halls without windows it gave the illusion it was night...didn't like that. Some halls look very different in the day.
Also, make sure you get the most for your $$. I went to MANY halls and learned how some halls offer more than others. 6 choice entree vs. 3 choice but same price. NEGOTIATE!!! They need you more than you need them...they can take $$ off the per head price and add in a LOT of extras! Make sure you aren't afraid to ask for what you want! We got a lot of extras plus a FREE sushi station for CH!

Make sure to use the girls on this site though. They are filled with tons of information on all of the different RHs. I only looked at Leonards cause we knew that was the hall we wanted and it fit FH and I perfectly.

Re: Picking the right hall??
Thanks for all the great advice! I am def going to use this.
I know I want late 2009 (Oct-Dec) so I guess that is a start. I know relistically anything by the water would be a waste bc of the time of year. It seems on most of the sites a lot is included in the packages, but I guess you still need to haggle to get the most for your $$.
I really need to sit down and focus... I am def going to take all this advice, everyone has been very helpful :)
Hey is there any value in going to bridal shows? I was looking at The Inn online and they are having a show.

Re: Picking the right hall??
For me I was picky with one thing, and that was being able to have an outdoor cocktail hour. I wanted a place that had a nice outdoor area that allowed that. Also the decor had to be neutral enough that it wouldn't interfere with the theme of my wedding, the place could not be over the top, because thats not us, we causal people, the food had to be amazing and we wanted to get alot of food for our money,
and Most importantly it had to come at a price we could afford. Our place offered all that and more.

Re: Picking the right hall??
I think it's a good experience and I would go at least once or twice in the begining of your planning but once you start picking your vendors it will just be too overwehlming IMO. But def go and check one out while you are still in the early phases of planning it will help with ideas

Larkfield Manor is one of my choice. It looks beautiful and I have heard great things about the food.
If you don't mind me asking are they reasonably priced?

Welcome!
I just bumped an old thread on 09 board called 'Reception Hall Price Quotes' You should check it out because it has quotes that we've gotten at a bunch of different halls for different months of the year and days of the week. Good luck!

If you look on this website, there is a Reception Hall spreadsheet. Check it out. It will help you. I think you should check out every place and see. You will know when you find the right place.

Re: Picking the right hall??
My biggest thing was I HAD to have a Saturday night summer wedding..........so I would say just make a list of places that can accomodate a lot of your personal NEEDS and cater to specific things YOU & your FH want.
