How did you know something was wrong? How was it dianosed? How did you treat it?

yes. oh dear god. it's awful. I had a few needle EMGs. The best way to treat it was treating the inflammation and neurontin helped a lot for nerve pain. I mean it made the pain disappear, but it made me feel groggy and depressed and now they're linking suicides to it, so I'd be careful.
I have a lot of different nerve problems..I have numbness, tingling, my corresponding hand or foot falls asleep..but when I had severe severe sciatic pain it was like no pain I'd ever felt before...I don't even want to think about it.
If you are concerned see a neurologist

Anyone ever have one? (Truly diagnosed...)

My mom did years ago. I believe she went to a chirporactor. She couldn't turn her head to the side & it didnt' go away with heat, like a stiff muscle would.
I think my aunt had a similar problem & she thought it was something in her arm, but it was really a pinched nerve in her back, casuign arm pain.

Yes, I had one for two weeks. It was horrible. I finally went to the chiropractor and he loosened it up. It was near my neck. Oh the Pain. I went for a few sessions. The chiropractor wanted me to go regularly . I felt better after a week. I didn't want to waste time and money to go regularly.

Re: Pinched Nerve
Chiropractic care can help. Acupuncture also helped a lot along with PT, ice, heat, massage. I tried everything and different things work at different times. Good Luck. let me know if you need any hugs, advice or doctor recommendations.

Re: Pinched Nerve
Nerves usually get pinched from being out of spinal alignment. I know I sound like a commercial for chiropractic care, but I can't say enough about it. It saved my life!! I've had pinched nerves in my neck and in my lower back. OH! The excruciating pain.
Both times I went for chiropractic care, and both times it 'cured' me. 'Cured' is in quotes because, if you don't for for regular 'maintenance' (at least once a month) the pain and problem will definitely recur.
If anyone works in the City and wants the name of the most awesome chiropractor there is (no it's not me - ), FM me. Not only does this man have intuitive hands, he is really really cute.

How are they diagnosed? What are the specific symptoms?

Re: Pinched Nerve
I think a pinched nerve is usually diagnosed by smptoms aqlthough they will do an EMG to rule our nerve da\mage, carpal tunnel, etc. Symptoms can include numbness and tingling (like your hands or foor will 'fall asleep), sharp pains, hot or cold sensations usually radiating from the source..so i te problme is in your neck, your arms/ahdns will feel it, lower back, it'll be your legs, etc. Sometimes it's a spinal alignement issue, or if you have anjy kind of disc problem, sometimes it'sd just muscle spasm. I have to take muscle relaxers and just crash out every so often. One problem with pinched nerves is that it can be a cycle if untreated. Like, say you have a disc pinching a nerve..so you ahve pain, your muscles will contract to limit movement to protect your body causing more pain, and sometimes more nerve irritation....it *****, but there are so many treatments, and it could just be a one time thing that's out of whack. If you're not even sure you have it, chcanes are it's not that severe.
