And what about counters? I want to get my makeup done by mac (not necessarily for my wedding but maybe for e-pics) and I'm not sure what I should do. I'm thinking about buying the eyeshadow and mascara from them and having them put that on me. But then there's the issue with the brushes. I'm so paranoid..

Mac has a brush cleaner that they sell (and use).
If you are gettign your makeup done, ask them to please clean the brushed before they do your makeup :)

Any professional makeup artist cleans their brushes after each use, and has multiple brushes they use. They also use disposable mascara wands, gloss wands, etc. I would discuss these concerns with your artist beforehand.

You can only get infections from anything wet. In other words, you wont get it from eye shadows... Any good make up artist cleans their brushes.
I was once a model on a shoot and the MU used the same mascara on all of the models. I refused make up and used my own. I was deemed difficult but didn't care.
Also, if they blow on their brushes or your face, RUN.
If it makes you feel better, bring your own mascara and lipstick. Even brushes.

it gives me shivers just thinking about it. i had wanted to get my makeup done at mac for my epics but i'm just so worried about their brushes being dirty.

Hey if your looking for a makeup artist the one i used was amazing she works for metamorphsis and is veryyy cleannn and so fun and sweet if you want her number let me know!!!!
