Yesterday, a couple of volunteers and I went to a shelter for homeless women and children to paint a mural in their yard where the children play. We did not get to complete the entire thing due to time and we ran out of paint. We will go back and complete it tho. THe mural artist did an excellent job. If and when we do get a home, I am getting one of these mural artist to do something in my home. The mural artist might be a bit disappointed that we did not stick to his color scheme but I think we did a great job.
Here are the beginning stages
This is the side that did not get done
After I put the camera down I started working on my little corner, why yes I had to choose the corner with one of my most favorite flowers
We are getting there
Do not interrupt the artist at work
Look above at my before pix, look how far I have come
My sea of sunflowers
Yes I am proud of my work...LOL
Look at these ladies go, they were awesome
Remember the before pix above?? look how far she has come
This guy is a comp graphic designer, I think his eye for mixing color is amazing and he did an amazing job.
You've come a long way baby
She works fast, look at the above pix and this is the finished product
All Done
Another angle
My master piece, not completed, no more paint
From here to the left we could not complete
I wonder who did this masterpiece

Re: PIX FROM MY VOLUNTEER PROJECT
It is so rewarding doing these projects, the children and the parents kept coming around while we were doing it to check out the progress and they seem so appreciative. It really makes you feel good knowing you are doing something to brighten someone else's day.
Chippa Roger did not come with me on this one, he is coming with me on the one for July 12th He was too tired it was after his big reunion and then they had a BBQ yesterday so he was tired.

Re: PIX FROM MY VOLUNTEER PROJECT
Nice work Shamma!
I did something similiar at a school in Queens through New York Cares (years ago when I lived in NY). Anna you may want to check out their calendar of events - you can volunteer as much or as little as you want, though I think most projects take place in NYC and the Queens area.
There's a similiar group out here called Hands On San Francisco. Perhaps there's a LI chapter too.

Re: PIX FROM MY VOLUNTEER PROJECT
I have received so many FM from people interested in doing volunteer work. The name of the organization that I work with is called New York Cares, they do volunteer work all year round. You attend a 1 hour orientation a day that is convieint for you. You get their monthly calendar via email or snail mail, you see a project you like you call up a person like me, that's called a team leader and sign up for the project.
You are not bound to do any one project, even tho some project requires committement ex tutoring, reading to kids or teaching people how to speak english etc. Projects that I lead are usually one time project, they are usually in Bklyn or Manhattan.
