We were thinking of using candles that have the guests name and table number on the candle and can also be doubled as one of the favors but if your not using a typical card how are you solving the problem of your guest recieving them before the cocktail hour (when they walk into the reception hall and have the card table in the entrance) and having to carry them around until the ballroom/reception room opens up. With the typical place card, most people just put them in their pockets

Re: Place Cards
I don't think it is really that creative but it is adorable. It is also going to double as one of their favors.

Re: Place Cards
I found placecards last week at Staples, next to my other favorite activity, resume paper. I just used my label maker program, I still have to center it correctly, but I used some script font, they came out nice, Im going to add a satin ribbon to the corner.
We're doing our own as well. We decided since we both work in Manhattan and my FH proposed to me on top of the Empire State building to do a 'NY wedding' to some degree. So we're naming each table after a Manhattan landmark and on 1 side will be the peoples name and table description and on the other side will be a photo of what it is:
