Re: place cards / widowed women
My gut tells me Mrs. I had one of my father's cousins whose husband died about a month before our wedding and I put Mrs. and her name on it.

Mrs. I thinking putting Ms. would upset them.

It depends on how 'old school' they are. I know my mother's aunt would want to be listed as a 'Mrs.' but MY aunt (a generation down) uses Ms. (but she also used Ms. while she was married).

My great uncle sends my mom x-mas cards addressed to, Mrs. Peter S.
But everyone else sends it to Mrs. Diane S.

Re: place cards / widowed women
I would put Mrs. & the husbands name
ex: Mrs. John Doe
Thats just the respectful way, I think.

Re: place cards / widowed women
I used Mrs. being that she still uses his last name and never remarried.
eta: I used Mrs. and her first name w/ his last name...not his first name- So for ex: Mrs. Katherine Married

Re: place cards / widowed women
Mrs.
My aunt's 2nd husband passed away 5 months before the wedding - we wrote hers as Mrs.
plus we had 2 friends form church who lost their husbands a good 15-18 years ago and they are still wanting to be called Mrs. - we wrote both as Mrs.
HTH!

Re: place cards / widowed women
the 'proper' way for that is Mrs., with HER first name, and her married last name. I'm actually always paranoid to accidentally address someone who has NOT lost their husband that way - b/c it implies that her husband is not alive.
