I really want to do printed placecards with table numbers like this!!!
But knowing what happened at my brother's wedding (people showing up with dates, people who never RSVP'd also showing up, VERY last minute changes to the seating chart), I don't know if pre-printed placecards and table numbers are a good idea. Suppose I make them all and then the night before we have cancellations and changes? I will have to reprint some. Do I want to be worrying about this the night before?
Option 2: I could do the standard placecard that has the guest's name printed and I just fill in the table number the night before. Not as fancy, but is definitely more flexible.
Would it look bad to have some done one way and some done another way?
I am doing the standard place cards but I am also putting a rhinestone on the top to make it look pretty. Then I am buying clear labels so I could put there names in a nice colored script print. Writing in the table # at the end as well.

i'm going with the fill it all in yourself option...this way you can just bring a few extras and whatever pen or marker you used and not have to worry about things matching up...here's mine (except ours are green)
jennarose023 - where are you putting the guest's name? At the top of the card?

I had the same concern.

Good idea about the rhinestone! My placecards are attached to the favor so I don't want to make the placecard ultra fancy so it takes away from the favor.

Yup the names will go at the top/left of the birds and you can't see it in the pic but there is a line under the table number wording in the same color as the birds where the table number get written it...we also bought a monogrammed stamp that we be stamped on the back of each place card just to make it a little more personal

I really think I will have to go with the table ____ option and I'm really sad about it!!! Why can't guests just be courteous and reliable?!

I never thought about guests cancelling at the last minute.....geez, I was going to have mine all pre-printed. I guess it's something else to think about!

I'm just going by what happened at my brother's wedding. Some guests cancelled 2 days before, some asked to bring a date 3 days before... drama! What's the point of an RSVP date if it'll be ignored?!

Well if guests cancel, you can just pull out their placecard--no re-printing needed. The additional guests are the real trouble, and you won't know about them until the day of anyway, so it will need to be dealt with day-of anyway--and frankly, you won't know until the placecards are somewhat off the table, and if they're disrespectful enough to just show up than too bad for them they don't have something nice. I would expect the Maitre D to just deal with it at that point and not interrupt your day.

i agree the day of people might not show and if they do cancel before you give your place cards in then just pull them. As far as changing of guest etc. don't worry about it. I did names and table numbers on our cards and then i printed some blank one's out to fill in for last minute people but never used them,

True! I think I will stick to my original idea of pre-printed table numbers for the placecards. I will also have some blank ones (no names/no table numbers) for wedding crashers.

that would be too easy if guests were responsible!

thats a very valid point. but maybe you can do it like a week before. When do you have to submit your final head count?

Re: Placecard question, which is the best option?
Could you print the design you made with the names and the border on a small envelope and print the table numbers on a card that goes inside? Then all you have to do is move the card. That's what I'm planning to do...
