In my opinion, I would give 1 card for a married couple.. Ex 'Mr & Mrs David Smith'
If they have 2 small children, I would write 'Mr & Mrs David Smith + 2'
If the kids are adults, I probably would give them separate cards but you may not necessarily need to. Hope this helps!

I bought my own placecards and I actually started making the template for them last night. I downloaded a font call 'Feel Script' from 4share or something and I was able to play around with it and put a monogram on top with our date underneath it and then the persons name and table underneath that. I LOVE the way they came out!! I was worried they would look cluttered but it really looks great!

I loved the idea of a framed seating chart but I just couldn't justify spending that money on something I wouldn't even display in my place after the wedding.
