Re: placental previa?

Previa is when the placenta hangs/lays close to the cervix. In some cases, they make you go on bed rest to avoid rupturing the placenta. Has her doctor put her on any restrictions? Sometimes early delivery is associated with Previa.

Sorry I didn't read that she was already ON bed rest. 's to her that everything will be okay.

Re: placental previa?

my mom had it with my brother and a good friend had it. they were both put on bed rest for awhile and then it corrected itself. They both had healthy babies. Its very scary though...

It is something to be taken very seriously but with monitoring I am sure your SIL and the baby will be fine.

Re: placental previa?

I had partial PP with Emma. My placenta moved 2.5cm away from my cervix when it came time for delivery. I hope hers moves. If not she will most likely need a C/S if its complete PP. Don't worry as long as she follows docs advice she should be fine

Re: placental previa?

I had placenta previa, mine was complete blockage. If you recall I delivered Isabelle 11 weeks early because of it. I started to bleed heavily at 28 weeks and they put me on bed rest in the hospital (complete even with a bed pan) for a few days and then they decided they were going to send me home on bed rest, until I started to bleed again. That is when they transferred me to Stony Brook and put me on bed rest again with the intention that I was staying in the hospital (about 10 weeks) until I delivered (they were hoping closer to my due date). All failed and I had her a few days later. It was very scary, so tell your sister to do what they say and stay in bed when they tell her to. Best of luck and please fm me if you have any other questions. PS...This just happened to me, Isabelle is 9 weeks old and my due date isn't even here yet (Dec. 17th)

Can't they tell with a sonogram if it is previa or not? That is how they knew I had it.

Re: placental previa?

My MIL had a severe case of this with my DH. She had to have an emergency c-section at 34 weeks. However, this was 35 years ago and a lot has changed since then. Good luck to your sister!!!
