Planning a 1940s or 1950s theme wedding?

Hi All,
We just decided that we would like to plan a 1950's ish wedding. We want to play mostly Standards music for example Cole Porter and the Rat Pack. So far anyone I have metioned this to has not responded to the idea too well but we are pretty gung ho! I was wondering if anyone else out there was doing this or has been to a wedding like this. I am also not having the easiest time finding resources to help it feel genuine to the 50s. We don't just want to play up the kitchiness of the 50s we want it to feel the way weddings of the 50s felt. We think anyway. We're not positive since we can't find all of the info we are looking for. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I'd talk to people that got married back then, look at their pictures, etc. Playing the music is a great idea....plus back then, simplicity was key!

Def do the 50s thing if that's what you 2 really want. It's your time to shine!! As far as having difficulties, have everyone wear black and white so it's like watching a black and white TV. The music will also help with the 50s feel and the rest can fall into place!

A friend of mine sort of did this. It was really a theme per say but she wanted a very old world vintage style without it being too over the top.

She had a beautiful vintage cake topper, used a lot of music from that era, had her bridesmaids wear wrist gloves, her fiancee wore a white jacket, etc.

Really striking.
