Has anyone gotten great deals by booking their entire wedding in less than six months???
Do halls lower their rates for your or reduce their minimums? Vendors more willing to negotiate?

Re: Planning a wedding in less than 6 months?
I don't know how much help this will be but....
Someone I work with booked the Watermill in May for an August wedding and got an amazing price. They did however want a Saturday Morning and had most of it outside. They didn't do a sit down dinner because they didn't want it so formal so it was a buffet. I hear those are usually more expensive then sit downs anyway too.
They booked the large room downstairs even though they knew they weren't going to have the min. # of people but the watermill was just happy to fill the date.
As for other vendors- I am sure they will do the same thing with the price.

I think it depends on how close to the date you book.....I am pretty sure most RH will give you a much better price if you are looking for a date that is very near. I think most of them would rather get the date filled and cut the cost a lil and make some money rather than not having an affair going on that day at all.....my sis booked in about 11 months since the Thanksgiving weekend was free and they wanted to 'sell the date'.....they gave her a better price than when she originally went in there looking for a year and a half in advance.

I've definitely heard of people getting good prices, because rh's want to fill dates. You might just have to be a little flexible on your date.
Congrats!

From what i hear from friends you will get a great deal on RH i would be concern more with getting the better vendors since they all may be booked just a thought. You can always look into and compare.

FH's cousin got engaged in Feb and married in Sept-- they got amazing deals... they did pick Labor Day weekend (it was just their 5-yr anni on Sat) so they saved a bunch on that, but they did run into availability problems. For example, they needed to hire a different photog from their video company b/c there weren't any photogs available for that day anymore.
If you do your research, I think you can get some amazing deals. Good luck!!
When we were searching for our RH (this was this past March 2009) I inquired about any available dates in November (2009).. I think I only asked the Watermill and they gave me the regular rate. I didn't ask any other RH's b/c I decided to wait until April 2010. So in my experience, I would say NO.
ETA- Granted, that was 8 months but still..l would have expected some sort of discount.

I got great deals on photo, video, and limo by booking so close.
We planned our whole wedding in exactly 6 months. I'm so glad too. I don't know if I could've taken a longer engagement (he lived so far away!).

Yes, definitely the halls work with you more by dropping there minimums and working with you on price per plate. The only drawback is you have to take whatever day is left over and you may not get the time you want. I planned my wedding in less than 4 months and was very happy and satisfied with the date and time I found. Shop around. Also the vendors worked with me more with price as well, they were very pleased to hear they would be getting their money in 4 months as opposed to 2 years down the road. It was amazing how flexible vendors were on price knowing my wedding was so close. HTH

I planned my wedding in 3 months....we got a great deal on our RH (of course we could only pick from about 5 dates so you have to be flexible).
And I had no problems getting Vendors.

Yes mine was 4 months and i got some great deals. I have a small wedding and were offered lower than regular minimum headcounts at several places as well. Of course there are the rude and arrogant ones that think their places are too good to give you a discount whatsoever but then they wouldn't get your business.
I also got a good deal for DJ. everything else felt like regular price but if you ask, you may find something.

As far as I hear, in most cases you can get a great deal if you book closer to your date because they are looking to fill in their empty dates for the remainder of the year.
