Who is all planning from out of state, and how did you handle everything? How did you know what vendors to use, and who to make appointments with? I'm planning from Atlanta and I feel like when I come up to LI the weekend is a whirlwind, and everything needs to be planned out precisicely.

Sorry, not planning for out of state. But if I can be of any help to you while you are in Atlanta, feel free to ask. A lot of great vendors are from this site and most of them can give you over the phone quotes. It would just be seeing their work when you do come up to LI. Best of luck and Congrats

I'm with you! Planning from Washington, DC. The boards have been really helpful re vendors. I'm happy to share with you which vendors have been more amenable to long-distance brides. We also try to cram everything into as few weekends as possible! FM me if you like. I won't be on the boards again until much later tonight. Good luck, and welcome!

Another out of state bride here (also planning from the Washington, D.C. area). Just ask lots of questions - everyone is really helpful. They'll be able to tell you which vendors are good and who to avoid.
Good luck!

Me too - although i am no longer planning but married now! Like Alison i am in DC. I planned it all in 5 months, and only made 3 visits up to NY (talk about whirlwind!).
honestly, i don't know what i would have done without this site. i can honestly say that i got every single vendor off of this site (except for my hall and the limo that my mom hired!) it can be overwhelming, but there is a lot of help here. if you hear of a vendor or have an idea, pass it by the girls, they will give you their honest opinion!! also do searches on this site for all of your vendors including your hall and you will probably find lots of people using them!! Good luck, and WELCOME!!

Re: Planning from out of state
Thank you all so much. This board has been great! The vendors I've dealt with so far have been very accomadating, and the information I have received here already has been invaluable. Due to such a negative response of one of the vendors I had an appiontment with, we decided to cancel, b/c it looked like it was going to be a waste of time.

Re: Planning from out of state
I'm planning from Delaware (2 hours from NYC). This site has been very helpful since I first logged on last October. The main issue I've come up against recently is finding someone for hair and make-up assistance. The wedding will be held on a yacht that will cruise the Hudson and East Rivers around Manhattan. However, it will leave out of Weehawken, NJ. No one has been willing to travel to that location. Anyone have any suggestions?

i'm also planning from the dc area. i took a lot of suggestions from this site and also from friends and family. you basically really have to know what you want before you go see anyone and limit your shopping around. good luck!

atlastbride -- You should be able to get nearly anyone to come to NJ if you are willing to pay them appropriately for the time and inconvenience it takes for them to travel or offer transportation.
I planned my wedding from Boston, so a similar distance to the DC brides. If your have a long engagement it really isn't too hard to pull off with the guidance of folks at LIW!

Re: Planning from out of state
Valenia-Thanks for the response, but I have contacted all of the vendors mentioned on this site. All but one of them said it was too far for them to travel. One person responded, but said it was really too far for her to travel and she would have to charge a minimum of $500 for just myself and MOHs make-up! That's a bit ridiculous.
Oh well, I'll just keep looking.

I'm planning from Chicago & 85% of the vendors that I am using are a result of referrals from this site.
The search engine is a wonderful thing! Furthermore, the LIW family will be happy to answer any questions that you have regarding any particular vendor.

My sister planned her May 2001 wedding from Atlanta! I did a lot of the legwork for her...and the internet was a wealth of information! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!!
Plus this site is unbeatable - the people on here are very helpful!
