Planning my wedding

Planning my wedding

I just started planning my wedding and already I'm overwhelmed. I haven't found a hall or buy my dress yet. I've been procrastinating and now time is passing me by and I need to start planning.

Here's the deal with the Reception:

FH's uncle and cousins are professional chefs and they have a lot of friends who are chefs as well. Everyone volunteered to cook for the reception for FREE ( I don't have to give them a dime, not even for the products to cook the food). My only problem is that I don't have a venue to host the reception. I'm inviting about 200-250 people so I need a very nice place that can hold that many people to have the reception. This place would have to allow me to bring my own food and alcohol. I don't go out often so I don't know any place that I can use for my reception. If you ladies can help me find a place I would be more than happy.

As for the dress I already know which style of dress that I want and I plan on going dress shopping with my mom soon.

Do not stress- You have plenty of time (if the date on your profile is accurate). The first thing you need to think about is the style of venue you want and then start doing some research. It is nice that your FHs friends and family are willing to cook all of the food but you are going to need someone to coordinate everything. I do not know any RHs that will allow you to rent the space only but I never asked so I do not really know.

You definitely have a lot of time and do not need to stress out like you are doing. Research online and look for RH locations that allow you to bring your own food and to be honest places that do that are probably still open and not fully booked for 2011 as most brides aren't going to want to bring their own food or even have the option to. In re: to your dress, you have over a year and something new is coming out everyday so relax, you'll be fine...JUST BREATHE!

The date is accurate, it just that seems like it's not that far away because time goes by so fast. I plan on hiring servers and a DOC to help me for the day.

If you're planning on hiring a DOC, you might want to hire them as a regular planner as well. They'll be able to put together all the logistics, permits, insurance, everything. They'll also be able to recommend venues that will let you bring your own food/alcohol! Good luck!

You have a point there jilliibabii I might as well hire a wedding planner. That's exactly what I'm going to do.

Thanks

Re: Planning my wedding

There are definitely places that will allow you to do that - they're just not the typical reception halls because many people don't have the means to go that route - good for you that you have professionals that want to help you out - for free!!! I know there are a few places out in the hamptons. Hempstead House is another option (and beautiful). There are options but u just have to reasearch a bit. And definitely get a coordinator/planner!!! Good luck!

Re: Planning my wedding

you have the luxury of planning well given your date. My only suggestion is that you actually visit the RH's and take a tour. A lot of them are completely different from what you read online and in reviews. Theres no comparison to seeing them in person. I'd also suggest not rushing to book your vendors - the tendency to change your mind will strike often, and second guessing your choice of venue, dress, hall, colors, etc is not fun...so spend your time researching and start booking once you've researched all the vendors..

good luck and happy planning!

I think the place is called Long Island Manor. It's where Wantagh ave ends by Hiscksville rd in levittown/bethpage area.

it's a place you can hire and I believe you do your own catering. when it's not rented it's open for dancing. at least that was true a few years back.

I don't know how big it is, what it looks like inside or if it's any good but if you don't find any other places you might want to investigate this.

also, I believe that the American legion, K of C, Elks may let you bring your own food.
the K of C in Seaford and in Oceanside are supposed to be nice.
