Plasma tv's .vs. HDtv's

anyone have any takes on which one is better?
I'm hearing some bad things about a plasma tv?? Anyone know which is better in the long run? Right now, we're headed towads a 55' HD, with a 1080 picture...I see really no difference in the HD 1080 vs, the Plasma! Anyone have any opinions on either or?

I think you are a little confused - Plasma and HD are not two things you can compare. You can have a plasma screen that is an HDTV. Plasmas are tough because the screen can burn out. We have an LCD TV that is an HDTV and has a great picture.

Plasma's core (I don't know the correct terminology) but the liquid in it does run out after a certain amount of years...my fiance is a fan of the LCD projections that are high definitions.....

We have a 46 inch LCD

loL , yes i meant lcd. . . me and dh keep generlaly calling it HD to shorten it...

I heard the same thing about plasmas, that they can burn out, and/or something can happen with the liquid that the whole tv can be ruined?

which brand do you have? i think dh was leaning towards the sony or the hatatchi....

I also heard that w. an LCD, the guy at best buy that u need to replacde a bulb every few years which costs about $300 a pop ??
my parents have a lcd and they love it.
i see no difference in picture when i compare the lcd 1080 to the plasma. meanwhile plasma is $3000 more about....
i dont care if i have either or, but i'd rather have it BIGGER thananything else. . so if meant getting a bigger lcd rather than a smaller plasma for the same price...bigger is better, but lcd is great anyway....so its not like quanity or over quality, ya know?

Anything over 46' should be plasma.

I would get plasma cause plasma is way more fun to say than LCD.

That is how I narrowed down my house search. Cool street names = 10 point bonus. Boring street names = No thank you.

For real.
There is a street near my SIL- Floradora. It took awhile to decide, but I have decided it's a stupid name, and I would never live there.

Plasmas WILL burn out after 5 years of use... it's a certain amount of hours (my dh knows the exact # of hours) that means you have to leave the tv on 24/7 for like 5 years...

BTW... all tv's (new ones) have a certain amount of hours...

OH and BTW... I have both (lcd and plasma) and the plasma pic is WAY better...

Oh yeah... and on THAT note, my DH (who is in the bussiness of plasma and lcd and home theater ect) SAYS that lcds are better (not the pic quality) BUT i don't remember why... i could ask him when he gets home...

This is also important for your future children when they play the 'what is your porn star name' game.

No, a plasma will not burn out in 5 years. Why would anyone sell a TV that only lasts 5 years?
They will last about the same, and for approx 60,000 hours. Which is I guess 6 years, 24 hours a day.
This I know.
And I am pretty sure that for larger TVs, plasma is a better picture. But this could be case by case.
Just don't get a projection.

Good point. My street was Long Hill and my pet was Hot Dog - what quality porn star would I be with a name composed of those?

yes, you are right... it's more like 7... i was just guessing... BUT i talked to dh and he said lcd is pretty much the same and this was his exact words 'As far as picture quality goes, plasma is king. They are way better then lcd. Lcd's have more problems overall. (as in when he gets a service call it is usally for a lcd) the only plus of a lcd is the $$' and thats what my dh... who is i guess, an expert said....... hth
