OK...so if things work out I think that DH will be getting one from Santa...but the concern I have is...where do I put my cable box? dvd player? dvds? etc?
DH said we could install shelves to hold these things...
can anyone tell me what you have done or seen...
if you have pictures that would be really cool...

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
You can buy a piece of furniture for under the tv... we have a small unit with a shelf for the meantime. I'll try to find some pics of options for you.

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
Here's something similar to what i have... that's not us - lol.....
Not sure how it all works but where are all the wires in the picture above? Wouldn't the cable box have to hook up to the tv or a power cord? sorry - don't know much about the technology but I am very interested....With my big screen and the space it needs to be in - - I have everything on top and am still looking for a better solution...
John was thinking about putting up shelves...but we have SO much in our entertainment system...we'd need major amounts of shelves...

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
This is exactly why we dont have one! Whats the point of having the flat screen if I need a big piece of furniture to have everything else anyway and wires everywhere?
If you are willing to redo th sheetrock behind it - you route the wire thru the wall and have them come out at the bottom to hook up to your cable, etc.. That is how it looks best.
My only suggestion is to have a short set of bookselves running the entire lenght of the wall. Fill with books and devote a few shelves to the vcr, cable box, etc.. and then hang the flat screen on top. That way you have a mostly bookshelf looking thing, more counter space and teh flat screen is the 'art'.

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
That is the reason I don't want one, we have the VCR, the dish, playstation/dvd....and the point is like Stef said, to NOT have all that in and on a shelf and MAKE room!

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
Our wires are behind the wall. They put a small whole fish the wires through and then there's a small whole at the bottom.
We only have 3 boxes...cable; dream system and the media box which is what you plug everything into for the tv.
We love it.

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
You can buy a shelving unit/dresser/chest to hold all your components & DVDs, but you'll definitely want to put the wires in the wall, otherwise it's not a pretty sight.
This is a shot from a hotel we stayed at, but it gives you an idea how they had it set up. The Playstation and DVD player were below in the dresser:

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
we're getting one for our living room..
What we plan on doing is installing speakers throughout inc. the bose surround sound and then take the DVD/VHS/Stereo, etc. and we have a linen closet where we will put all that stuff in in the hallway, right next to the living room..
We will run all the cables through the ceiling and over into that linen closet..

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
We are waiting on ours - we ordered it through a company my FIL recommended and it should arrive any day now.
We are having it professionally installed and the wires will be routed through the sheetrock and across the living room ceiling (which works now because our house is still under construction with all the renovations we are doing). We only have a DVD player and VCR that should be connected to it, along with the cable wire. I can't tell you how much bigger it's going to make our living room appear without having the big TC and all teh associated junk on the shelves with it.
I like to move my furniture around alot (I like change) so if I put it in the wall...that would frustrate me if I couldn't move it...

Re: plasma/flat wall hanging TVs
DH wants one sooo badly but we are having a baby this year so he has to wait a bit for it. But I will only get one if we can hang it up and have the wires done correctly and have a small shelf under it with the DVD player etc...I just got our Wega 3 years ago so we don't NEED another TV either.
Michele...we have a Wega too and I think its great...but John's brother just got a 50' reg TV...so I think John wants to outdue him the prices have come down so much...maybe I can get him to wait one more year...and then I can say we can't b/c of a baby
