anyone have any takes on which one is better? I'm hearing some bad things about a plasma tv?? Anyone know which is better in the long run? Right now, we're headed towads a 55' HD, with a 1080 picture...I see really no difference in the HD 1080 vs, the Plasma! Anyone have any opinions on either or?

I don't really know much about tvs and the different pictures and stuff, however we have an HD tv in our family room and their is a huge difference!

we have both, I really dont notice a difference in the picture, but the plasma does get really hot if you leave it on for a long time.we have the philips with ambilight, we bought it in September, and it had to be repaired once already..hth

We have a HD LCD in our bedroom & I love it. For me, I can see the difference between that & the regular TV. We do not have a plasma & Dh doesn't want it. My BIL has one & it is great.
I heard that Panasonic is the best though

I've heard the same, I think they are supposed to last longer too.
We got my parents one for their 60th b-days and I love it, I can't wait to get one for ourselves (one can dream!)

We have an lcd and a plasma. We just got the plasma (panasonic 42') and the color/quality is amazing. We were watching wheel of fortune in HD last night and the colors were almost popping out at us!!
We like the lcd also (it's in our bedroom) it's extremely clear too, but not like the Plasma... IMO.

No, no joke. I was just adding it bc we all have been talking about how we hate certain grammar errors etc. (well i guess it was sort of a joke bc i was saying it in a funny/serious way. Make sense??)

I know that the problem with plasmas is that they can burn in a image. I don't know if they have resolved that problem.....but that was the issue a few years ago.

This drives me up the wall too!!
To answer the question though - LCD is better. If the image can burn into a plasma - so if you play video games or have something up on the screen for a long time - like a DVD menu or something, it will burn into the screen and it will be there for all eternity.
