Ladies, has anyone bought a platinum wedding ring?
We just got married on Sunday and haven't worn our ring for more than a week but it's already all scratched up! The jeweler who made them said it was pure platinum. I thought platinum was harder to scratch than gold...? Anyone experienced with jewelry able to share some wisdom?
Oooo the wedding was at Jericho Terrace and was beautiful. The only mishap that happened was my forgetting to change out of my earrings between dress changes and the floating candles burning out too early but otherwise everything was really wonderful. Will be posting up reviews after the honeymoon!!!!
Miss you all!!!

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
my e-ring and wedding ring are platinum. Platinum is very soft but very dense, so it will scratch but its hold diamonds better than gold. Consider getting platinum with a design so that you don't notice the scratche much, or recondition once a year.

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
platinum is a softer metal so it scratches easier. But it's stronger than gold in that it is more pliable which means you can bend it more and it won't snap as easily. At least this is what someone told me..

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
platinum is ductile - which means it is very hard, but easier to alter its shape (I know it doesn't make sense, its a difficult concept). It does not scratch more or less than gold, but the scratches can be smoothed out and you won't lose any material, wheras with gold you have to polish out the scratches which wears away the gold.
White gold is also treated yellow gold covered in rhodium (a platinum mixture). If you are worried about the rings, try to compare their color to a ring you know is platinum. You would be surprised at how yellow 'white' gold is.

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
the bottom of my platinum engagement ring is scratched. At first I thought it was just dirty and had it steam cleaned, but it came back super sparkley but still scratched.

Agreed. Platinum is a much softer metal so it scratches easier. But you can get it buffed up to look good as new .

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
platinum is a softer metal is more delicate it is likely to get more scratched than white gold. white gold is more durable although platinum is a stronger metal i know it's weird

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
My rings are platinum also although I have not really noticed scratching yet. My band is very thin though soo not as noticable.

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
Platinum is actually softer than gold so it scratches easier. Also, pay attention to your diamond. Because it is softer, it bends easier which can loosen your prongs. My FBIL works for a jeweler. Sometimes more expensive isn't always better. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer.

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
My ring is platinum but like mentioned before it has a design with diamonds so the scratches are not as noticable......

Re: Platinum Wedding Rings
I have platinum and it scratches but you can have it re-covered or dip so it is shiny again.
