butterfly, that is correct. That is what our hall is calling it.

Just to echo what most of the others said...there should be no tax on gratiuty. Tax on the service...not on the tip.

Re: Please answer my question
This thread irritates me. This is how all these reception halls get over on all of us!! Its bad enough they charge crazy money but to start taxing on unecessary things irks me. This is why I REFUSE to make my final payment in cash. NO WAY will I let them put that money under the carpet!!

Wanda, me either. If I remember correctly, my reception hall does not take the final payment in cash.

This is upsetting me also. I cant stand that they can get away with this. Its not like they are no making a bundle on our wedding days anyway.

I have just e-mailed both governor Pataki's office as well as Elloit Spitzer's office (our atty general) I will post their responses as soon as I get them.

So if my hall calls it a service charge, I have to pay tax on it?

I am not sure... If I go to a russian restaurant this weekend which charges service charge, I'll tell you... Otherwise, don't know.
