DO NOT go to Queens- we went to the North Hempstead Town Hall and it took about 20 minutes. There was a couple there when we were there who said that they were at the Queens office for hours and ended up leaving.
You won't have to take a day, probably just a morning or afternoon. I think a lot of places don't issue them after 3:15 or 4:15.
It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
ETA- NH Town Hall is in Manhasset.

Re: Please explain the whole Marriage License
1.) To a town hall (if on Long Island). I went to the Town of Hempstead when they opened at 9:00 and we were out in 20 minutes 2.) Not more than 60 days before you get married, no less than 24 hours before. 3.) You might not need to take the day off if you can go in late, leave early or do it at lunch. 4.) You both need to go 5.) you don't need a witness 6.) Check the website for appropriate ID - you can't just bring license and SS card, you need a birth cert. or passport

between24hours before your wedding & 60 days before.
I had a day off, & my FH works near a city hall,so we went on his lunch break. (then I went shopping!)
but if you can't go at lunch ,you will need to go in late or take off, most are opened 9-3 or something like that.

yes, you can go any where in the state in which you are getting married.
It has nothing to do with recedency.
