PLEASE help! Ceremony locations-- getting down to the wire!
Hi! Okay, now I'm getting desperate. Need an outdoor ceremony location in Suffolk County. Here's what I've tried:
Bayard Cutting Arboretum: No. They won't let us do it because we have too many guests. (200+... they'll only do it if you have fewer than 100 guests.)
Hecksher Park: Eh. We may be able to rent a pavillion there, but it's right on the parking lot and next to a kids' playground and the bathroom building... not nice scenery.
Dowling: Booked for our date.
The Grange: Didn't like it.
I forget the name of the place, but the one on Main Street in Brightwaters-- parking lot is too small for our guests.
Other ideas, please? Please? I'm getting nervous! We're trying to find a pretty outdoor setting where there's some kind of pavillion or building just in case it rains. In Suffolk County. THANKS!

this is just for the ceremony? you have a reception place, right? if so, why not use the place where you are having the reception?

Yep, I have the reception hall booked, but if we want a ceremony there, it has to be at 7:30 p.m. Two problems: 1. It will be getting dark at that time, so not great for an outdoor ceremony, and 2. Then we have to take pics beforehand, so FH will have to see me before the ceremony and I've decided I really, really don't want that. I keep dreaming about that moment we first see each other when I'm walking down the aisle! :)

Usually not everyone shows up for the ceremony! Im sure if its a few people over 100 they wont give you a problem. Ive never been to a wedding where every single guest came to the ceremony.

but what i was told with bayard arboretum is that you are not allowed to have chairs, which makes it difficult for older guests. hmmm...any local parks? the beach? have you done your invitations yet? if not, you can be selective and invite close people to the ceremony and then do bayard.

I'm sure you're right that some people won't show, but we're inviting about 240 people... I already talked it all through with the people at Bayard, and they said 'no way.' They really discourage wedding ceremonies there, and will only put up with it if it's going to be small and no flowers, limos, etc.

Ah, right, and no chairs, either.
I have a brochure from the Long Island parks committee that shows me all the town-owned parks, but I've really struck out so far! I do want to invite everyone to the ceremony. I may wind up doing it in a church, but I'm really hoping to have it outdoors.

Did you ever figure out where to have your ceremony outside of the catering hall? We are looking for a place in Suffolk county that is not a church. We would love to have it outdoors, but need indoor facilities in case of rain. Our reception is at the Watermill, but the outside is too noisey for a ceremony and we don't want our ceremony on the dance floor if it rains.
