PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
my friend is going to a wedding at Tavern on the Green in The city, and Valet parking is $18 a car. We mjust wanted to know if etiquette says that the guest pays for the parking, or does the host (bride/groom/parents) pay for it
The person who is hosting it was not sure of the etiquette, so I said I would turn to my girls!!
I think that the person hosting should pick up the tab, but wanted to know what was 'proper'

Re: PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
I would say the host. When I looked into booking halls on LI, I looked for one that included valet. But really, I think that it's just built into the price of things at a lot of halls.

Re: PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
now that I think of it, not sure if it is even for valet parking, but it is for parking nonethless...
I think its NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, if you are renting out the palce for the wedding, let your guests park for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
That is Crazy. The BRide and Groom should have some type of deal with Tavern on the Green to Park the Guest Cars. And by the Way I know it is very pricey over there and u still have to pay for parking ssoooo crazy

Re: PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
It sounds like it's probably for parking the cars, not just the valet. I used to pay $18 for anything up to 3 hours when I lived in Greenwich Village. I agree that the bride and groom should pay and the guests should just tip. I can't imagine that too many people would be driving though since it's so much easier to take the subway or a taxi though, right?

Re: PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
i think the hosts should pay and tip. I think guests attending a wedding should not be expected to have to tip anyone. Everything should be arranged prior by the hosts.

I hope that the host's are picking up the tab, but I would keep 20 bucks in my pocket - Just in case.

Re: PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
I have been to a few weddings in the city and always paid for parking myself. I have never expected the parking to be paid for by the hosts. It is my choice to take my car into the city in the first place. NYC is ALOT different than LI in that respect.

I agree -- I have always paid for my own parking in the city when I've gone to a wedding.

Re: PLEASE HELP! Etiquette Question regarding VALET PARKING
I would expect to pay & get there early. Here's why - When we looked at having our reception at TOTG they told us that the small parking lot outside is actually run by a seperate company so they don't assist with parking arrangements. When we went to talk to the parking manager he said they would only discount the price to $16 if we paid for all the cars parked for the wedding.
Plus we had to guarantee a certain number of cars & they don't close off the lot to us. They said if the lot is full they'll redirect people to another lot nearby & then we go there to pay for the number of cars parked there.....it was by far our #1 reason for not booking there.
